Girls soccer holds on to top Taos, 2-1

The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team and the Taos Tigers scored all the goals in their game Saturday in a 7-minute span in the first half.
But Los Alamos’ two goals, coming just four minutes apart, would hold up as it picked up a 2-1 victory.
Hilltopper Charlotte Leonard scored in the 32nd minute coming off an assist from Catie McDonald. McDonald scored shortly afterward off an assist from Cory Carnes to give Los Alamos a 2-0 lead.
Just before halftime, Taos scored to halve the lead, but neither team could find the net in the second half.
Los Alamos dominated the game from start to end, getting off 28 shots in the contest to just 3 for the Tigers. Goalkeeper Megan Bucklin got the start and was credited with the win for the Hilltoppers.
“I was happy with our performance,” Los Alamos head coach AJ Herrera said. “We knew exactly what was coming at us from Taos. Taos worked it up to their fast forwards up top, but we did very well with balls in the air to prevent that.”
