The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team couldn’t get much going on offense Thursday against one of the top programs in the state.
The Hilltoppers managed only four shots in Thursday’s contest against the Rio Rancho Rams. The Rams, a Class 6A school, have been very impressive during the first month of the season and their game against the Hilltoppers was no exception.
Rio Rancho (9-2) dominated possession against Los Alamos. It attacked the goal efficiently during the first half then, after scoring in the 15th minute, took its foot off the accelerator, but still hung onto the ball most of the way.
The Rams earne a 3-0 victory at Sullivan Field.
Los Alamos (4-6) went into this week’s play hoping to pull off a pair of wins against two solid programs, but instead dropped both those contests. Los Alamos was nipped Tuesday at Albuquerque Academy.
While it’s hard to argue with the results, the Rams’ offensive strategy was interesting against the Hilltoppers.
During the first part of the game, the ball rarely left the Hilltoppers’ side of the field. The Rams moved the ball efficiently, employing mostly 1- an 2-touch passes that kept the Hilltoppers scrambling.
