The team of Matt Schmidt, David Fox, Mike Harris and Cliff Fortgang earned a tiebreaker win in Saturday’s Family YMCA golf tournament.
The Strong Kids Classic, a fundraising event for the YMCA’s Strong Kids program, which provides activities and scholarship money for needy families in northern New Mexico, attracted 21 teams. The tournament, played at Los Alamos Golf Course, is scramble format and is the major fundraising event for the Strong Kids program.
Schmidt, Fox, Harris and Fortgang shot a 58 gross score for the tournament. That equaled the total of Bruce Norman, Marti Hill, Ted Ball and Jeanne Ball. Those two teams finished three strokes ahead of the their next-closest competitors.
Prizes were awarded for the top finishing teams in both gross and next score — Wayne Taylor, Lynne Taylor Tom Gravlin and Bill Wolfe had the best net score of 59. Additionally, more than $40,000 in raffle and hole-in-one prizes were available at the tournament.
