After finishing fourth in the state singles competition last year, Sidra Hsieh-Ratliff should be one of Los Alamos’ top players again this season.
’Topper girls tennis in the hunt for a team title

The Los Alamos girls tennis team should be in the mix for a state team title once again this year.
Similar to the last few years, the Hilltoppers, Farmington and Albuquerque Academy are expected to battle it out for the top spot.
“I guarantee it will be one of those that will win (state),” Los Alamos girls head coach Bruce Cottrell said. “I don’t think anyone can say we will win state, but we can all say that we can win state.”
The Hilltoppers made it to the state semifinals last season where they fell 5-3 to the eventual champion, Farmington. Los Alamos only lost one senior from last year’s squad, so it will have essentially the same cast of characters on the court again.
With all of those girls back, depth will be the team’s biggest strength.
Farmington’s biggest strength, on the other hand, is in doubles, while Academy has the top two players around.
Sidra Hsieh-Ratliff finished fourth in state singles last year and will lead the Hilltoppers. Laura Whicker also played in the state singles tournament, but lost to the eventual state runner-up in the first round.
Astrid Hengartner returns with state doubles experience as well.
