Senior-led volleyball team has its sights set high

With seven seniors and a lot of height, including a 6-foot tall junior transfer, Los Alamos’ volleyball team has high hopes for its upcoming season.
“We have a lot of heart and drive to win and a lot of seniors — it’s our do-or-die year,” Brianna Montaño said.
“We want to take first in our district, that’s one of our main goals,” Sierra Foley said. “Also coming together as a team with our new girls (is a goal) and we’re pushing to win state. Everyone knows this is the year to take it all. Since all of the seniors are pushing to win state, the underclassmen are striving to be part of that goal, too.”
Last year, Los Alamos reached the state quarterfinals where St. Pius X eliminated the Hilltoppers. Los Alamos finished 13-11 overall and second behind Española Valley in District 2-5A.
Los Alamos, however, only lost one senior from that squad. Its seven seniors this year all played on varsity last year, and three of them have played varsity since they were freshman.
Foley, Montaño and Samantha Melton will be playing their fourth varsity season this year. Seniors Ashlynn Trujillo, Elizabeth Anaya, Halie Street and Noelle Gallegos also return.
