Little League Roundup: Majors baseball wins District 1 title

The Los Alamos County All-Star majors baseball team sailed through the District 1 tournament last week, culminating in a crushing victory in the tournament championship.
Los Alamos’ majors — a division composed of 11- and 12-year-olds — blasted Española’s All-Stars in the final Saturday morning. Los Alamos jumped out to a huge lead after one at-bat and cruised the rest of the way to win 20-0 in Santa Fe.
With their win, the All-Stars will now advance to the state majors Little League tournament, which starts this weekend in Carlsbad.
There wasn’t anything magical to Los Alamos County’s tournament win, said manager Alex Garcia.
“Our offense hit the ball very well,” Garcia said. “We put ourselves in a position where our pitchers could work ahead…the coaches and I are very pleased with our pitching staff and our sticks were on fire. I’m very pleased with the way the kids performed.”
Los Alamos jumped out to a 13-0 lead after one inning and tacked on six more runs in the third inning. Los Alamos’ first two batters hit home runs to give the team a 2-0 lead just four pitches into Saturday’s final.
