LA has chances but doesn't finish well against Tigers

There were some plusses for the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team in its season opener, but there’s no shortage of things that are going to have to get better.
Los Alamos, which is in a serious reconstruction phase after a very lean past four seasons, is hoping to see some improvement early on and saw some of that Saturday night in its 2014-15 season opener.
Los Alamos found some offense and was able to set itself up with some opportunities on that side of the ball.
However, finishing those opportunities were an issue for the Hilltoppers, as they fell to the Aztec Tigers 55-42 at Griffith Gymnasium.
Along with winning just two games last season, the vast majority of its players off that team were seniors, leaving the Hilltoppers little varsity experience as a unit heading into this season. And that showed Saturday.
Its woes in converting its chances were compounded by getting caught up inside against Aztec and letting its long-range shooters have open looks, particularly Juwan Charley.
Charley hit two big 3-pointers for Aztec (1-0) in the second quarter. The big blow was a wide-open three from the left side of the arc that would help the Tigers pull away from the Hilltoppers.
