LA football beats Santa Fe

Los Alamos' football team ruined the Santa Fe's Homecoming Friday, beating the Demons 49-13.

The teams traded early touchdowns, but Derek Selvage scored his second touchdown midway through the first quarter to put Los Alamos up, 12-7, and the 'Toppers led the rest of the way.

Los Alamos took a 26-13 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Lane Saunders scored a touchdown — his second of the game — and then Nick Quartieri ran into the end zone twice to initiate the running clock phase of the mercy rule.

Los Alamos also got a safety in the third after a Santa Fe long snap went over its punters head and into the end zone.

The 'Toppers other touchdown came in the second quarter. Los Alamos fumbled the ball just before crossing the goal line, but a 'Topper recovered the loose ball in the end zone for the score.

Los Alamos improved to 2-4 overall with the win. It will begin its District 2-5A season next week against Capital.

Santa Fe, meanwhile, remained winless. The Demons are 0-6.
