Kirk and his team, the Armored Athlete, won’t be getting a million-dollar payday.
After winning its first three games of The Basketball Tournament, Armored Athlete was one of the final eight teams in the running to win the tournament’s title and the cash.
Ants Alumni, a team made up from players that captured the 2013-2014 NBA D-League Championship, however, ended the Armored Athlete’s run Saturday night, 76-72.
The Ants Alumni took a two-point lead into halftime, 36-34.
Despite Armored Athlete sinking nine-of-16 three-point attempts after the break, Ants Alumni won the second half by two points, as well.
Kirk played 12 minutes in the loss. He grabbed four rebounds and scored eight points.
Ants Alumni also beat the tournament’s inaugural champs, the Notre Dame Fighting Alumni. It will play Arizona’s Team 23 in the semifinals Saturday in New York City.
That game, and Sunday’s 1 p.m. million-dollar championship, will be televised on ESPN.
