  • Baseball: WR 9-10 squad opens...

    Winning the District 1 9-10 Little League tournament didn’t afford the White Rock All-Stars much when the state baseball tournament bracket was drawn up.

    White Rock was scheduled to take on a team from the Los Lunas area in tonight’s opening game at the state 9-10 tournament, which is hosted by Albuquerque’s West Mesa this season.

    Win or lose, White Rock will play Saturday at 2 p.m. The tournament is scheduled to continue through at least Thursday.

  • Softball: White Rock opens state...

    The White Rock Little League 9-10 All-Stars will have to wait an extra day to start state tournament play.

    Not that White Rock management is complaining too much.

    White Rock, which won the District 1 tournament earlier this week, will get going Sunday with state tournament play. It received one of four byes in the 12-team tournament, which gets going Saturday at Bayard, near Silver City on the western edge of the state.

  • Softball: WR feels good heading...

    The White Rock Juniors All-Stars will be heading into the state softball tournament on a high note.

    White Rock downed Española Valley in the best-of-three series for the District 1 title Sunday, getting a complete game shutout from Monika Teter en route to an 8-0 victory to win.

    The Juniors Little League tournament starts Friday at Albuquerque — Alameda Little League is hosting — and continues through Tuesday. White Rock and Española Valley both advanced to the tournament as the top two teams from each district are invited to participate.

  • Baseball: Home run derby to open...

    The state Juniors All-Star Little League tournament is adopting at least one aspect of Major League Baseball’s All-Star fiesta this year.

    To kick off the state tournament, which will be played at Bomber Field and Senior Field on North Mesa starting Friday, two players from each of the nine squads will be selected to take part in a home run derby.

    That derby will precede the first two games of the tournament, one of which will pit the Los Alamos Junior All-Stars against Raton.

  • Anaya will head Hilltopper...

    This weekend, softball will be foremost on the mind of Rogelio “Roger” Anaya.

    It will certainly be so for the rest of the year, as well.

    Anaya, who is currently managing the White Rock Little League 9-10 All-Stars, was named the new head of the Los Alamos High School softball program June 20. He was picked out of a pool of four candidates for the job.

    White Rock Junior All-Stars 12, Espaola Valley Junior All-Stars, 9(Game 1)

    Good hitting and star pitcher Monika Teter iced the win for the White Rock Junior All-Stars Saturday, despite a commendable fifth inning comeback by Espaola Valley.

    White Rock came out swinging, almost cycling through its entire batting line-up in just the first inning.

    The streak began with a textbook bunt by Aimee Gutierrez, and opened the doors for a 2 run double by Rachel Anaya and a run-scoring single to give White Rock an early 3-0 lead.

  • Baseball: WR can close out...

    White Rock Little League’s 11-12 All-Stars can close out the District 1 tournament and clinch a trip to state tonight with a win over Española Valley.

    Despite a pair of rain delays during Tuesday’s game at Alto Park in Santa Fe, White Rock pitcher Jared Mang held Española Valley scoreless through four strong innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while fanning 10 batters.

  • Baseball: LA knocked out by...

    SANTA FE – A long grueling trip through the loser’s bracket of the District 1 tournament finally proved to be too much for the Los Alamos Little League 11-12 All-Stars.

    Los Alamos was sluggish early in its elimination game Wednesday and never could catch the Española Valley All-Stars, falling 11-8. The District 1 tournament is being played at Alto Park.

  • Sports update

    LA 9-10 All-Stars play tonight in Pojoaque

    The Los Alamos Little League 9-10 All-Star baseball team will take on Pojoaque tonight at Pojoaque.

    Los Alamos won its District 1 tournament opener Monday night against Española 17-4 to advance.

    Tonight’s game with Pojoaque starts at 5:30 p.m.

    Also tonight, the White Rock Little League 9-10 All-Stars will play in Santa Fe at 6 p.m.

    Kinderkick registration is open

    The Family YMCA of Los Alamos will hold its Kinderkick program starting Aug. 18.
