  • Boys golf: LA tops field to win...

An hour-long weather delay didn’t seem to do too much to dampen the spirits of the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys golf team Monday.

With most players at Monday’s Los Alamos Invitational having five or six holes remaining, a significant rain and thunderstorm blew right over Los Alamos Golf Course, forcing the stoppage.

  • Girls golf: LA finishes third at...

It’s been an eventful last couple of weeks for the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls golf team.

With less than half a spring season to go, head coach of the team, John McBride, left the program and left it in the hands of boys head coach John Stam.

Stam took the reins of both programs at arguably the season’s most critical juncture, just a few weeks before the District 2AAAA tournament and one of its best golfers, Alicia Herrera, inching closer to qualifying for the state Class AAAA tournament.

  • Boys track and field: Toppers...

ALBUQUERQUE — It’s been something of a uphill battle for the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys track and field team this season, but the steep trek might be leveling off somewhat.

The team’s performance, however, seems to be on the rise.

  • Baseball: LA grabs 2 wins at...

The Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball team apparently doesn’t like to have fans leaving halfway through a doubleheader.

The previous weekend, Los Alamos just got by Española Valley in game one only to slam the door early in game two to earn a big District 2AAAA sweep.

Saturday, the Hilltoppers needed extra innings in game one against the Taos Tigers, then put up an eight-run second inning to help secure another sweep.

  • Girls tennis: LA picks up win at...

Despite the rough weather this weekend, the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls tennis team picked up the regular season District 2AAAA title this weekend.

Los Alamos topped Española Valley 7-2 Saturday and got a concession victory over Taos to clinch the title to clinch a spot in the Class AAAA state meet. This weekend’s pre-District 2AAAA meet was played at Capital.

  • Girls track and field: LA blasts...

ALBUQUERQUE — More than a few around track and field in New Mexico consider the Richard Harper Invitational a good measuring stick for the state meet.

If there’s any truth to that, the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls track and field should be in pretty good shape.

The Hilltopper girls handed out another beat-down this weekend at the meet, held at Albuquerque Academy. They dominated the field, scoring 104.5 points, more than double their nearest competitor, Class 5A Highland, which finished with 49 points.

  • New coach wants to re-energize...

Garett Williams has been around football for some time now.

With stops at the prep, college and even pro level, Williams has seen football in all shapes and sizes.

Now, he wants to cut his own niche.

Williams was hired Thursday to take over the Los Alamos Hilltopper football program. He is replacing Bob Scott, who racked up a school record 124 wins in his

20 seasons of guiding the Hilltoppers.
