  • Golf: Club swap scheduled for...

    The Los Alamos Junior Golf Boosters will hold its annual Father's Day Golf Club Swap Sunday.

    The swap will be held at the Los Alamos Golf Course from 8 a.m.-noon. All proceeds from the swap will go to benefit junior golf in Los Alamos.

  • Golf: Senior men’s...

    John Sutton had a pair of solid recent outings playing in the Northern New Mexico Senior Men’s Golf Association tournaments.

    Sutton, from Los Alamos, took top honors in the second flight of the NNMSMGA’s June 2 tournament, held at Pueblo de Cochiti Golf Course. To follow up, Sutton finished as the runner-up in gross score in the June 3 contest at Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe.

  • Baseball: Little League Minors...

    The Los Alamos County Little League Minors baseball tournament continues with a pair of games tonight, while the Majors tournament is off until Thursday.

    The White Rock Phillies advanced to play the White Rock Mets tonight at Byers Field in Overlook Park, while the Los Alamos D-Backs will take on the White Rock Marlins at Lou Caveglia Field. Both games will start at 6:15 p.m.

    The D-Backs defeated the Los Alamos A’s in Monday’s first round, while the Phillies knocked off the Los Alamos Orioles.

  • Running: Hanson wins men&...

    Hans-Peder Hanson was the top overall finisher in the men’s half-marathon at Saturday’s Valles Caldera Marathon.

    Hanson, from Los Alamos, finished the men’s 13-mile event in 1 hour, 38 minutes, 45 seconds, almost eight minutes ahead of second-place overall finisher, Neil Blake of Rio Rancho.

    Rio Rancho’s Shawn Cunnings was the men’s overall winner in the marathon. Cunnings finished with a time of 3:49:05. Ruthanne Hamrick of Cedar Crest was the women’s overall winner in Saturday’s marathon, clocking a time of 4:22:47.

  • Baseball: County tourney gets...

    The 2009 Los Alamos County Little League Majors Tournament opens tonight.

    The annual tournament pits the Majors Little League teams in a double-elimination bracket. It continues through at least June 23 with a possible championship playoff game scheduled for June 24.

    Tonight, the fourth-seeded White Rock Indians take on the fifth-seeded Los Alamos Rockies. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Alan Byers Field at Overlook Park.

    There could be some interesting landscapes on the horizon for the 2010-11 sports year barring unforeseen roadblocks around the state of New Mexico.

    The New Mexico Activities Association, the governing body of most interscholastic high school-level sports in the state, is set to implement a new alignment and classification system, which is set to go into effect the school year after next.

  • Girls rugby: LA U19s head to...

    Next stop for the Los Alamos Rugby Club will be the Emerald Isle.

    The local U19 girls rugby club, which has held a pair of recent fund-raising dinners at the Los Alamos Elks Club and a recent fund-raising car wash in the Los Alamos National Bank parking lot, has earned enough money for an excursion to Ireland.

    The Los Alamos club will head to Ireland Wednesday. In Ireland, the rugby club will take part in three training sessions with international coaches and will play a pair of matches.

  • Baseball: Tickets are now on...

    At least one part of the Los Alamos County 60th anniversary celebration won’t be celebrated in Los Alamos County.

    But if organizers have their way, the county’s baseball and softball programs will reap some big benefits.

    Local baseball and softball organizations are helping to sell tickets for Los Alamos Night at Isotopes Park. The event will be held June 20 at the facility, which is the home of the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

  • Softball: Hilltopper final...

    Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team pitcher Monika Teter had a statistically-brilliant first varsity season in 2009.

    Teter, a freshman, was among the top pitchers in the state in strikeouts and earned-run average for the 2009 season, which ended in mid-May. Teter, who posted a record of 6-3 this season, finished with an ERA of 2.48, which placed her just outside of the top 20 pitchers in the state.
