  • Softball: Topper JV wins 3...

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper junior varsity softball team won three of four games at this weekend’s Green and Gold Invitational.

    The Green and Gold Invitational, which used a round-robin format, was held Friday and Saturday at Overlook Park in White Rock.

    Cleveland High School, from Rio Rancho, swept all four its contests at the tournament. Its closest game of the tournament was against Los Alamos, which it won 10-9.

    Los Alamos, meanwhile, thumped Mesilla Valley Christian 19-4. It also knocked off Belen 10-4 and St. Michael’s 6-4.

  • TAOS — It was a small victory over Mother Nature, but one noteworthy enough to even catch the time.

    At 6:21 p.m. Thursday, Los Alamos cleared the final piece of ice off the Mesa Tennis Courts in Los Alamos. While that means the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls tennis team has yet to get a full practice in this season, it seems it may now finally get that opportunity.

    “These tournaments have been our practice,” Hilltopper head coach Bruce Cottrell said.

  • Boys tennis: Toppers knock off...

    TAOS – Things are continuing to head in the right direction for the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys tennis team, with or without its full squad.

    Los Alamos had a solid outing this weekend at the Quail Ridge Invitational, picking up X victories, including a big win Saturday over District 2AAAA opponent Taos and Class AAAA opponent Farmington.

  • Girls track and field: LA nips...

    The Los Alamos Hillltopper girls track and field team earned five new state qualifying marks and a team victory at Saturday’s Albuquerque Public Schools Invitational.

    Los Alamos edged out Class 5A power Rio Rancho at Saturday’s meet by one point. Los Alamos collected 75 team points, winning three events and taking runner-up spots in four other events to pick up its second team win of the season.

  • Boys track and field: Toppers,...

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys track and field team didn’t field a full team or have one of its best season efforts Saturday, although that was tempered with some good performances by its available athletes.

    Los Alamos finished with 18 total points at Saturday’s Albuquerque Public Schools Invitational, placing it tied for eighth overall in the 18-team field. Class 5A Cibola won the event going away with 107 points, more than half-again the total of its nearest competitor, La Cueva.

  • UPDATE: Kirk picked for All-Star...

    Los Alamos Hilltopper Alex Kirk was named to the North All-Star boys basketball team by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

    Kirk, Los Alamos' standout center, will take part in the annual North-South Game July 29.

  • Boys basketball: Alex Kirk named...

    Los Alamos star center Alex Kirk has been named a 2009-10 All-Star by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

    Kirk, the leading scorer and rebounder in Class AAAA this season, was selected for the North All-Star team for the NMHSCA’s All-Star Basketball Game. The game will take place July 29 in Albuquerque at a site yet to be determined.

    The 6-foot, 11-inch Kirk finished his senior season scoring 25.2 points and collecting 13.7 rebounds per contest.

    No matter who you are, you’ve no doubt experienced stress at some point during your life. The majority of Americans say they face at least a moderate level of stress most every week. And, nearly 9 out of 10 people report having experienced high levels of stress at some time.

    The American Institute of Stress estimates that 90 percent of all doctor visits are for stress-related disorders. Additionally, 95 million people in this country take some form of medication for a stress-related problem each week.
