  • Girls cross country: LA sticks...

Calling it a buzzword might be something of a misnomer, but it was the word floating around most among the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls cross country team Friday.
    Faith.
And on the odd chance that there were any doubters among them, that doubt was erased in a matter of about 15 seconds at the Los Alamos Invitational.
At the meet, traditionally the last of the regular season for Los Alamos, all six of the Hilltoppers’ competing runners crossed the finish line in order, from four through nine, to earn a big victory.

ESPAÑOLA – The Los Alamos Hilltopper football team did what it had to do in defeating the Española Valley Sundevils Friday night.
Now, it must finish off its 2010 season with a victory and hope for a favorable outcome from the Bernalillo-Santa Fe game this week.
The Hilltoppers vanquished the Sundevils, who have struggled through the entire 2010 season. The Hilltoppers scored with just 17 seconds expired in the game Friday night and never looked back, picking up a 51-12 victory at Española Valley.

  • Girls soccer: Toppers pick up...

How the Class AAAA girls soccer state tree will finally shake out is almost anyone’s guess at this point, but the Los Alamos Hilltoppers made as good of a closing argument as they could.
The Hilltoppers picked up two big wins in consecutive nights at home to end their 2010 regular season. Friday, they topped St. Michael’s in an overtime battle, 2-1, then earned a shootout win Saturday over the Aztec Tigers, also by a final of 2-1.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers did a victory lap, sharing the moment with their frenzied fans. They sprayed each other with ginger ale on the field to involve the AL championship series MVP in the celebration, and doused their manager with the contents of a water cooler.

Fireworks and confetti filled the Texas sky. A flag proclaiming the Rangers as the AL champions was raised high above the ballpark, whipping in the wind alongside more than three dozen Lone Star state flags.
