Local runner Viki Saga was the last person to sign up for Saturday’s 5K race, but she was the first woman to finish.
Saga outdistanced Adrienne Larson in the women’s race of Saturday’s Firecracker 5K, finishing the race in 19 minutes, 8 seconds to win.
The Firecracker 5K, which is sponsored by the Family YMCA of Los Alamos, attracted 154 runners this year. The race, which has become something of an Independence Day tradition in Los Alamos, was postponed this year due to the effects of the Las Conchas Fire in late June.
That postponement actually worked out well for Albuquerque’s Ryan Fenton, who was the top overall finisher Saturday. Fenton turned in a blazing time of 15 minutes, 14.44 seconds, cruising to the win.
