Ten Hilltopper girls were honored recently by District 2-5A.
Los Alamos had four players named to the all-district first team, which tied Bernalillo for the most in the district, and six others named to the second team or receive an honorable mention.
“As far as the girls selected, it shows we had a lot of players who contributed,” Los Alamos manager Roger Anaya said. “During districts our defense stepped up and a lot of players hit the ball really well.”
Los Alamos finished as the District 2-5A runners up, behind Bernalillo, with a 7-5 district record. The Hilltoppers outscored their district opponents 107-64.
Pitcher Jordan Hammock, center fielder Shelby Chavez, shortstop Makaela Jones and right fielder Hannah Mojica all made the district’s first team.
Chavez led the team with a .382 batting average, seven triples, 32 runs scored and nine stolen bases. She also hit five doubles, two home runs and had 17 RBI.
Mojica led the team with 24 RBI and homered twice to tie Chavez for the team lead. She also had a .357 batting average, hit seven doubles and scored 17 runs.
Jones finished with a .364 batting average and 21 runs scored.
Hammock got five wins on the mound and finished with a 4.57 ERA.
