New Mexico State Parks announced Thursday that Morphy Lake State Park has been closed to overnight camping this Father’s Day weekend. The closure takes effect at 6 p.m. Morphy Lake State Park, located in Mora County, will be closed due to extreme fire conditions in the area. Santa Fe National Forest, which borders the park, is currently under State IV fire restrictions. NMSP reported that the area has been under drought conditions for the past several months and recent winds in the area have made camping dangerous. “The safety of visitors and park staff is our top priority,” NMSP division director Tommy Mutz said in a press release.

Isotopes swept by RedHawks The Albuquerque Isotopes were swept in a doubleheader Tuesday at Oklahoma City, snapping the team’s four-game win streak. The Isotopes (37-28), however, still maintained a hold of first place in the PCL American Southern division despite losing both ends of Tuesday’s road twinbill. They will wrap up their series at Oklahoma City Thursday and then return home for eight games starting Friday night. Albuquerque managed just 11 hits and three runs in the two games. Oklahoma City’s Wesley Wright, making an emergency start in the opening game, held Albuquerque to just one hit in four innings of work. Three RedHawk pitchers combined for a 2-0 shutout win.

After putting together two big offensive nights in a row, the Albuquerque Isotopes found themselves on the other end of a big offensive show Thursday night. The Isotopes made their return to Albuquerque Thursday following a long, 12-game road trip. They played the Nashville Sounds and the Sounds made some noise at the plate, earning a big 14-1 win. The Isotopes will host three more games with the Sounds on this quick, four-game homestand, including tonight’s game at Isotopes Park. Fan-favorite entertainer Myron Noodleman will be at the park for tonight’s contest, which is set for 7:05 p.m. unless air quality conditions in Albuquerque force a postponement.

Northwest Animas River: The flow is 4,920 cfs. Fishing is slow and the river is muddy and flowing fast with runoff. The river was stocked with 175 triploid rainbow trout last week. Chama River: Upper section flow is 1,120 cfs. The river below El Vado flows at 1,150 cfs. The upper Chama including the stretch flowing into El Vado is blown out. Flows are near normal and the river is in runoff. Wading is dangerous at these higher flows, so use common sense when fishing. Crane fly larva and egg patterns and a trailing flashy baetis were reported to be the hot flies. Also worms and Panther Martins are taking fish. The stretch below Abiquiu is fishing tough. High dam release has made wading tough. Flows below dam are at 1,200.
