    Northeast   Charette Lakes: No report. Cimarron River: 3.6 cfs.  More open water but fishing still very slow. Clayton Lake: No report. Conchas Lake: Fishing for walleye is good at about 50-60 feet with minnows. White bass are also being caught; however fishing pressure is still very light. Costilla Creek: Still iced over. Coyote Creek: Creek is still iced over. Eagle Nest Lake: 15 inches of grainy ice. Warm weather this week may close the lake to ice fishing.  Fishing is good for yellow perch and rainbows with Power Bait and worms.

  • Lobos to face LBSU in opener
    It was a good day for national exposure for the University of New Mexico and even a better day for Steve Alford and his Mountain West Champion New Mexico Lobos as they were handed a No. 5 seed and shipped to Portland, Ore. Thursday, the Lobos will battle Long Beach State, the No. 12 seed. The value for a program falling into the NCAA bracket was reflected even before the NCAA Selection show began on CBS. Alford was the last live interview heading into the national show. The Lobos didn’t have to wait long as his team was called early in the show.

    Northeast   Charette Lakes: Fishing is fair for trout and perch. Cimarron River: More water is open from the Palisades to Ute Park but water level is very low. Clayton Lake: The lake has been recently stocked with trout but fish are not biting yet. No report on walleye. Conchas Lake: Fishing for walleye is good at about 50 to 60 feet with minnows. Water temp is 49 degrees. Costilla Creek: Still iced over. Coyote Creek: The creek is still iced over.

    Girls Class 4A: Grants’ offense comes up big in win over Artesia All of the top four seeds in the Class 4A girls basketball state tournament made it through to Thursday’s semifinal round. Top-seeded Grants dropped in a whopping 81 points as it knocked off eighth-seeded Artesia Tuesday afternoon at The Pit. Grants, which defeated Los Alamos in last weekend’s opening round, has a tall order in Thursday’s semifinal, however, when it takes on 18-time state champ Kirtland Central. The Grants-Kirtland Central contest is set for 1:15 p.m. in The Pit. The other semifinal matches No. 2 seed Roswell against No. 3 seed Piedra Vista. That game is set for 9:45 a.m.
