Two singles champions, a third-place finish and a pair of fourth-place finishes in doubles helped the Los Alamos girls tennis team finish second in its home tournament Saturday in Santa Fe.
The Hilltopper girls scored 19 team points to take second out of 14 teams, only 2 behind Farmington and 5 ahead of third-place Las Vegas Robertson. Piedra Vista (7) finished fourth, followed by Santa Fe (6), Roswell (4), Gallup (3), Bernalillo (2), Los Alamos 2 (2), Española Valley (1), Santa Fe Prep (1), Belen (0), Capital (0) and Taos (0).
The Hilltopper boys, meanwhile, finished fifth out of 12 teams at Española Valley’s tournament Saturday, led by a second-place, a fourth-place and a fifth-place finish.
Farmington won the boys tournament with 44 points. Las Vegas Robertson (25) took second, followed by Piedra Vista (18), Cleveland (13), the ’Toppers (8), Taos (6) and Santa Fe Prep (4) while Hope Christian, Roswell, Española Valley and Belen did not score.
Leading the Hilltopper girls were a pair of individual champions. Katya Skurikhin won the No. 2 singles bracket and Michelle Alexander won the No. 3 singles bracket for Los Alamos.
