Girls stay put in rankings
The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team stayed put at No. 5 in this week’s MaxPreps online rankings.
Los Alamos, which plays tonight at home against Las Vegas Robertson, had been ranked as high as No. 3 this year, but dropped down to the No. 5 spot following its loss to Belen two weeks ago.
Heading into this weekend’s play, the Hilltoppers have the best won-loss record in 5A at 16-2. They trounced both Class 6A Highland and District 2-5A opponent Capital in their last two outings.
Gallup, which has been at or near the top of the 5A rankings all season, remained No. 1 in the state, followed by Roswell, Los Lunas and the Hilltoppers’ biggest foe, Española Valley.
The Sundevils (14-3) open 2-5A play Saturday against Del Norte.
In the boys 5A rankings, the Hilltoppers (2-15) remained at No. 23 in the 24-team classification, ahead of only winless Chaparral.
Centennial remained at No. 1 this week. Gallup, which has the best record in 5A at 16-1, is No. 2.
