Joan Williams was the top predictor in this week’s Pace Race.
Williams finished with just a 3-second error at Tuesday night’s Pace Race, which was held at Cañada del Buey Trail in White Rock. In all, 24 runners and walkers participated in the weekly event.
The next Pace Race is scheduled for Tuesday starting at Brewer Arena on North Mesa. Race time is 6 p.m.
This week, the two best predictions and three of the best four were made on the 1-mile course. Following Williams, Michelle Jones had a 12-second error. Tom Sandford had a 20-second error running the 3-mile course, and Georgia Pedicini finished 24 seconds off her predicted finish time.
The fastest runner on the 3-mile course was Ted Romero (19 minutes, 30 seconds). Zack Jones was the fastest finisher on the 1-mile course (9 minutes, 46 seconds).

Los Alamos High School announced Wednesday that Hilltopper swimming coach Rusty Bernstein has resigned.
Bernstein, who was hired following the 2007-08 season, was in charge of both the boys and girls swimming program. An announcement for applications has already been posted on the Los Alamos Public Schools’ website.
Initially, Bernstein was hired as co-head coach of the swimming program along with Cindy Black. The two coaches didn’t apply together, but the program’s swimmers at the time helped convinced the hiring committee co-head coaches were the way to go.
Black vacated her half of the coaching position in 2010 and Bernstein took over as the sole head coach since that time.
This season, Los Alamos advanced 10 boys and 8 girls to the state championship meet. Los Alamos’ girls finished in sixth place with 170.5 points and Los Alamos’ boys ended up in 10th place with 96.5 points.
With Bernstein leading the program, the Hilltopper girls had a runner-up finish at state in 2010 and a third-place finish in 2009. Los Alamos’ boys were third at state in 2009 and fourth in 2010.
Hilltopper athletic director Vicki Nelms was appreciative of the effort Bernstein had given to the program.

A local club volleyball team earned a trip to the Amateur Athletic Union’s national championship tournament this summer.
The Arriba Sol 17 volleyball team topped Synergy of Oakland, Calif., in the championship match of the Grand Prix Tournament, hosted by the AAU in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Arriba Sol team is made up of players from Los Alamos and Española. Los Alamos players include Samantha Melton and Brianna Montaño.
The Grand Prix tournament included pool play and bracket play competition. In pool play, Arriba Sol defeated Juno (Phoenix), LVVBC (Las Vegas, Nev.) and defending tournament champion SUVA (St. George, Utah).
Arriba Sol went 4-2 in the tournament’s pool play, losing the two sets it played against SUVA, but qualified for the gold bracket with the second-place pool play finish.
In the championship bracket, however, Arriba Sol bounced back to top SUVA in the semifinal, winning in two sets.
In the final, Arriba Sol topped Synergy 2-1 to take the tournament title and qualify for the national AAU tournament.
The national championship will be in Orlando, Fla., in June.
Other Arriba Sol players include Celina Naranjo, Victoria Valdez, Samantha Fredricks, Elana Salazar, Christina Naranjo and Jackie Avitia, all from Española.

The Albuquerque Isotopes snapped a two-game slide and earned a split of their series against Iowa Monday night.
The Isotopes banged out 15 hits and held the Iowa Cubs to just one run after the third inning to grab an 11-5 win. After winning the series opener, the Isotopes (7-5) dropped two straight games before Monday’s win.
Today, Albuquerque travels to Omaha for a four-game set. It will make a quick stop back at Isotopes Park starting Saturday before hitting the road again.
Monday, shortstop Dee Gordon went 3-for-5, scored two runs and drove in three runs to set the plate for the Isotopes. Meanwhile, Scott Van Slyke hit a pair of solo home runs to aid the cause, while Tim Federowicz and Alex Castellanos also went long.
In all, Albuquerque had six extra-base hits and touched up Cubs starter Drew Carpenter (1-2) for seven hits in 4-1/3 innings.
On the mound for the Isotopes, Stephen Fife (1-1) picked up the win. Fife struggled early, giving up four earned runs in the first three innings, but settled down to shut the Cubs out in the fourth and fifth.
Relievers Peter Moylan and Chris Withrow allowed just a run and two hits between them the rest of the way.
