  • Hockey: Toppers return to action today

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team returns to regular season action today when it takes on the Albuquerque OutKast.

    Los Alamos will meet Albuquerque at the Outpost Ice Arena. Game time is set for 10 a.m.

    The Hilltoppers (9-1-1) are currently sitting in second place in New Mexico Interscholastic Ice Hockey League standings, half a game behind league-leading Taos (9-1). Heading into today's game, the Hilltoppers are one point ahead of the Outkast, which are in third place in the standings.

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team wants all Hilltopper fans to "Green Out Griffith" Tuesday night.

    The Hilltoppers will be playing their arch-rivals, the Española Valley Sundevils, at home Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.

    Tickets for the Los Alamos-Española Valley game will go on sale at noon at the Griffith Gym box office. There are no re-entry privileges.

    Those wishing to purchase green T-shirts may do so at the gym. T-shirts are $15 each.

     

  • Girls basketball: LA routs Santa Fe at home

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team held the Santa Fe Demons to just eight points in the second and third quarters to win Friday night’s District 2AAAA contest going away.

    Freshman McKenzie Logan had 11 points to lead all scorers as the Hilltoppers came away with a 47-32 victory at Griffith Gymnasium.

    The win improves Los Alamos to 2-0 in the early portion of its district schedule and sets up a big contest Wednesday against two-time district champion Española Valley.

  • Sports update 01-21-11

    Beginning fencing course registration is open

    A beginning fencing course will start Feb. 1.
    The beginning fencing class is designed for those with no previous fencing experience. Instruction will focus on footwork and basic blade control. Emphasis will be on the foil.
    All necessary fencing equipment is provided.
    Interested participants must be 10 years of age or older. Class size is limited.

  • Boys basketball: Toppers knock off Spartans to open 2AAAA

    The funny thing about district play is that struggling teams can turn their fortunes around pretty quickly.
    The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team took the first step to doing just that Wednesday night and has a chance to take a giant leap this weekend.
    In their District 2AAAA opener Wednesday night, the Hilltoppers upended the Bernalillo Spartans. The Hilltoppers’ stout defense held the Spartans to just five points in the pivotal third quarter as they came away with a 57-44 victory at Griffith Gymnasium.

  • LA, Academy girls hoops rescheduled

    Los Alamos High School announced Saturday’s girls basketball games between Los Alamos and Albuquerque Academy have been rescheduled.
    Academy, hosting the games, had a schedule conflict.
    Instead, the teams will play Feb. 17 at Academy. Game times will remain 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

  • Boys basketball: LA upends Bernalillo in 2AAAA opener

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team came up big when it mattered most Wednesday night, downing the Bernalillo Spartans 57-44 at Griffith Gymnasium.

    The game was the District 2AAAA opener for both teams.

    Los Alamos (5-14 overall), got 20 points from Thomas Russell, rejoining the lineup after a foot injury kept him out of a ballgame last week, and 12 more from Nick Baker to knock off the Spartans.
