  • Running: Ross wins final 2010 pace race

    The 2010 pace race season came to a close Tuesday, with Inez Ross taking top honors in the finale.
    The pace race is held weekly during Daylight Savings Time hours every year. The Atomic City Roadrunners club sponsors the annual pace race season.
    Tuesday’s race was run on the Canyon Rim Trail under wet conditions.
    Ross was the top predictor in the final run, missing her predicted finish time by just 14 seconds. Ross topped both Karen Thorn (21 seconds) and David Kratzer (37 seconds) to win.

    KRSN to broadcast tonight’s football game
    KRSN AM 1490 will broadcast tonight’s Los Alamos-Bernalillo football game.
    Gene Mortensen, the Voice of the Hilltoppers, will call the game live from Bernalillo. Tonight’s pre-game show will start at approximately 6:15 p.m.

  • Volleyball: ´Toppers pick up big shutout win over Sundevils

    Lots of streaks stayed intact Wednesday night for the Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team.
    Los Alamos, one of the hottest teams in the state right now, picked up not only its ninth straight win at Griffith Gymnasium Wednesday, it also kept its District 2AAAA record a spotless 3-0 with just the struggling Capital Jaguars to contend with to make it a clean sweep of the first half of district play.

  • Football: Hilltoppers open up 2AAAA play Friday night

    It’s a new football season. For all intents and purposes, anyway.
    Despite a rough nondistrict season for the Los Alamos Hilltoppers, in which it lost five straight contests, things can be righted in a hurry. Los Alamos will have an opportunity to put a lot of struggles behind it quickly Friday night at Bernalillo.
    The Hilltoppers open the District 2AAAA season Friday at Bernalillo when they take on the Spartans.

  • Golf: Hilltopper round-up at Grants Invite

    Hilltopper girls finish second at Grants

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls golf team finished second at the two-day Grants Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday.

    Los Alamos improved 15 strokes on its day one finish, firing a team score of 351 to pick up the runner-up finish. Kirtland Central, a strong contender for the Class AAAA championship this season, won the tournament.

    In all, six teams took part in the invitational, which was held at Coyote del Mal Pais Golf Club.

    Hilltopper Steven Williams rolls to the left during Monday’s C-team game at Sullivan Field. Los Alamos lost at home to the Bernalillo Spartans 34-6.

  • Cross country: Hawks win three of four team races to end their ’10 season

    The Los Alamos Middle School Hawk cross country teams wrapped up their 2010 season with big finishes at the Santa Fe Indian School Invitational Saturday.
    LAMS’ seventh grade girls finished the 2010 season with a perfect score of 15 at the race, run on the SFIS campus. Madison Foley, Talia Dreicer, Nica Vasquez, Sophia Galvez and Katie Stockton swept the top five spots in the race to top Zuni.

  • Girls golf: ´Toppers grab their third state leg Monday in Grants

    The Los Alamos Hilltoppper girls golf team wasted no time in punching its ticket to the Class AAAA state tournament this season.
    In just its third tournament of the fall 2010 golf season, Los Alamos clinched a berth at the 2011 state tournament, which is scheduled for May. It garnered its third qualifying leg on day one of the Grants Invitational Monday, which is being held at Coyote del Mal Pais Golf Club.
    Monday, Los Alamos shot a team score of 366, well underneath the qualifying score of 393, to earn its third and final leg.

  • Football: LA knocked off by Academy

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper football team took another one on the chin Saturday in its final nondistrict contest of the season.
    Facing its fourth ranked opponent in five weeks, the Hilltoppers were thumped on the road at Albuquerque Academy. The Hilltoppers tried to hang with the Academy Chargers, a Class AAA team, early on, scoring a touchdown to cut a 14-0 Charger lead in half, but the Chargers would go on to score five unanswered touchdowns to win 49-7 at Richard Harper Memorial Stadium.
