  • Girls basketball: Toppers hold on late to top Jaguars

With one minute remaining, the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team looked well on its way to picking up its third win of the District 2AAAA season.
With 21.6 seconds remaining, everything was up in the air.
The Hilltoppers survived a scare Saturday night to pick up the victory. Christine Larribas picked off a pass on the Capital Jaguars’ side of the court to break up a potential game-tying drive and the Hilltoppers hit some big late free throws to win 58-55.

  • Girls basketball: Toppers drop contest for first place

    When it rained, it poured.
Unfortunately for the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team, it couldn’t even slow down the torrent in the second half of Wednesday’s game at Española Valley.
After keeping within striking distance through the first half Wednesday at Edward Medina Gymnasium, Los Alamos was hit with a barrage of 3-pointers from the Sundevils. At the same time, Los Alamos’ offense, which had been working well heading in, sputtered in the third quarter and stalled completely in the fourth.
