  • 'Greening' out Griffith

    The fans were rowdy at Tuesday night’s boys basketball game. The Los Alamos Hilltoppers took on the Española Valley Sundevils, the No. 2-ranked team in the state Tuesday at Griffith Gymnasium. The theme for Tuesday’s game was “Green Out Griffith” to show support for the Hilltoppers.

    Unfortunately, the Hilltoppers struggled in the second half  and the Sundevils came away with the victory in the important District 2AAAA contest. Check lamonitor.com for an exclusive photo gallery.

     

  • Boys basketball: LA drops big home contest, 49-35

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team hung with one of the top teams in the state through one half of play, but a rough third quarter sunk the team’s upset efforts.

    Los Alamos played even with the Española Valley Sundevils through one quarter and was down just 23-15 at the break, but managed just six points in the third as Española Valley took control. Española Valley went on to win Tuesday’s ballgame 49-35 in front of a sizeable crowd at Griffith Gymnasium.

  • Boys basketball: LA to take on its arch-rival tonight in big 2AAAA game

    While the District 2AAAA boys basketball season is just a week old, the Los Alamos Hilltoppers have a big contest on their hands tonight, one that could go a long way to determining its district fate.
    The Hilltoppers will host their arch-rivals, the Española Valley Sundevils, tonight at Griffith Gymnasium. Tickets for the game went on sale at noon at the Griffith Gym box office.
    Tip off for the varsity game is slated for 7 p.m.

  • Hockey: Toppers shut out Sunday

    The Albuquerque OutKast outlasted the Los Alamos Hilltoppers their first New Mexico Interscholastic Ice Hockey League game following the winter break.
    After two scoreless periods, the OutKast picked up the lone goal of their game Sunday morning early in the third period. That proved to be the only score of the contest as the OutKast picked up a 1-0 victory at Outpost Ice Arena.
    With the victory, as well as two others this weekend, Albuquerque jumped past Los Alamos in the NMIIHL standings. Albuquerque is now in a virtual dead-heat with league-leading Taos.

  • Basketball: No green shirts for sale tonight

    Los Alamos High School's boys basketball program announced there will be no 'Topper Store at tonight's game between the Los Alamos Hilltoppers and the Española Valley Sundevils.

    Team boosters announced last week there would be green shirts for sale at tonight's game - the C team game is set for 4 p.m., the junior varsity game for 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game for 7 p.m. - to help promote "Green Out Griffith."

  • Girls basketball: Topper defense stymies Demons

    Just three days after getting all 10 of its players in the scoring column, the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team got nine of 10 on the board.
    Friday against the Santa Fe Demons, Los Alamos turned in another excellent, team-oriented offensive showing. The team defense wasn’t too bad, either.
    Using a balanced scoring attack, the Hilltoppers dominated the Santa Fe Demons, picking up a 47-32 victory to improve to 2-0 in District 2AAAA play.

  • Boys basketball: LA falls to Santa Fe in district contest

    SANTA FE — Straight off the heels of its biggest game of the season, the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team had a shot at getting a share of the early District 2AAAA lead.
    Instead, the Hilltoppers again struggled to find their offensive rhythm and dropped its second district contest of the season.

  • Wrestling: Toppers take 4th at Aztec dual meet

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper wrestling team finished strong at the Aztec Tiger Duals Saturday.
    Facing some solid competition in their pool, the Hilltoppers pulled off a fourth-place finish at the 10-team meet, hosted by Aztec, one of the premier programs in Class 4A.
