    Hilltopper hockey’s senior night is Friday

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team will host its senior night Friday at Los Alamos County Ice Rink.
    The senior night ceremony will include recognition of the team’s 12 seniors. The ceremony will begin 15 minutes before the game’s 8 p.m. start time.
    The team’s seniors include John Alison, Drew Betts, Tim Branch, Billy Cooper, Dillon Coyne, Graham Delano, Devin Grider, Chase Havemann, Niko Meneakis, Chris Owens, Kurt Schramm and Brett Snow.

  • Off to College

    Los Alamos’ Andy Thoma, seen here during the 2010 season, is one of three Hilltoppers scheduled to sign their National Letters of Intent to play college soccer today. Thoma is expected to sign with Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

  • Hockey: Toppers win three straight

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team survived a tight contest at home Friday night, then took a couple of blowout victories Saturday.
    The three victories by the Hilltoppers this weekend, against St. Pius X, La Cueva and Cleveland, put the team back into second place in the New Mexico Interscholastic Ice Hockey League standings, a half-game ahead of Albuquerque’s OutKast.
    Los Alamos topped St. Pius Friday at the county’s ice rink, 2-1, then thumped both La Cueva, 6-1, and Clevleland 6-0 to round out the weekend.

  • Wrestling: LA has solid outing at Robertson Invite

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper wrestling team had three grapplers advance to the gold round of the Las Vegas Robertson Invitational this weekend.
    Jodi Cull-Host, Cory Geyer and Diego Madrid were all solid on day one of the two-day tournament and got to compete in the top bracket of double-elimination competition Saturday.
    The tournament was hosted by Robertson, a longtime top-shelf program in New Mexico.

  • Boys basketball: Toppers lose to Jaguars on Friday

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team again kept things close Friday night, but couldn’t knock off a tough opponent.
    The Hilltoppers lost their third straight district game Friday night at Capital, succumbing to the Jaguars 59-50.
    Los Alamos head coach Matt King said it was a frustrating loss for the Hilltoppers (5-17 overall, 1-3 in 2AAAA), who felt just a few possessions late in the game could’ve changed the outcome.

  • Sports update 01-30-11

    Baseball tryouts are Monday

     

    Tryouts for the Los Alamos High School baseball team will be held Monday at Bomber Field.

    The tryouts are open to all players in grades 8-12. Interested players must have their physical examination and all paperwork filed with the high school.

    Tryouts will start at 3:40 p.m.
