Los Alamos, playing in the consolation round of the Ben Lujan Invitational Tuesday, looked like it had its contest against Peñasco well in-hand after about 2-1/2 quarters, but the Panthers, led by scrappy shooting guard Gerrick Romero, clawed their way back into the contest.

  • Swimming: At 90, Miles still goes strong

Many people celebrate their birthdays with cake. Dan Miles celebrated his birthday with a dip in the pool.
Miles, who’s hardly a stranger to the water, went up and back the whole length of the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center 90 times for his 90th birthday last week.
And, just the way any longtime competitive swimmer might, Miles was unimpressed with his performance.
