The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team picked up a win over the Bernalillo Spartans Saturday at Sullivan Field.
In doing so, however, the Hilltoppers failed to impress head coach Jiri Kubicek.
Los Alamos scored four goals in the first half but seemed to go slack after that, although it still won by a comfortable 6-0 margin in the District 2-4A game.
The Hilltoppers (6-10 overall) have just four games remaining on their regular season schedule, the most important of which is Tuesday when they host the Santa Fe Demons. A win assures the Hilltoppers of their seventh consecutive district title.
But Kubicek was hoping to see better effort, especially on the offensive side, than his team showed him Saturday.
“We had a lot of shots, a lot of long shots, that weren’t very good,” he said. “We also missed a penalty kick. We kicked it straight to the goalie.”
Los Alamos outshot Bernalillo 24-0, but many of the shots were low quality.
Kubicek was also critical of his team’s performance in its previous outing a week earlier when Capital, a much-improved team but not one that should’ve given Los Alamos a lot of problems, pushed the Hilltoppers into overtime before the Hilltoppers picked up the victory.
