The Los Alamos Middle School Hawk eighth grade cross country teams swept both the boys and girls titles at Wednesday’s Albuquerque Academy Invitational.
The Hawk eighth grade boys finished with a perfect score as Jevon Montoya, Shawn Williams, Duncan Fuehne, Jeremyah Palmer-Scott and Elijah Vasquez earned the top five places in that competition.
That same group earned a perfect score at last week’s Española Middle School Invitational, with Montoya again leading the way.
Montoya, who ran a 10:00 on the 1.72-mile course at Española, finished the Academy meet with a time of 10:43, 15 seconds ahead of Williams, the overall runner-up.
In Wednesday’s eighth grade girls competition, Paulina Burnside paced the Haws with her time of 12:43, while Marin Kelly finished in 13:30. For the Hawk eighth grade girls, they took five of the top 11 spots in the race, which was good enough to hold off runner-up Desert Ridge.
Ashlyn Baker, Rachel Bowman and Kristin Fassbender all scored for the Hawks.
In the seventh grade races at Academy, the Hawk boys finished as the runners-up in team competition and the girls finished third overall.
Leading the way for the seventh grade boys was Gavin Campos, who clocked an 11:17. Liliana Garcia finished first among the Hawk girls seventh graders, coming in at 14:22.
