    Indoor soccer tourney hosted by Y

    The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is hosting an indoor soccer tournament July 21-22.
    Teams of four will face off in one of several divisions, adult men, adult women, coed, high school coed and youth.
    Price for participation is $15 per player.

  • LAHS 2012-2013 sports passes on sale

    The Los Alamos Public Schools athletic office announced its price for athletic tickets and passes for the 2012-13 school year.
    Passes may be purchased by calling the LAPS athletic office at 663-2531 or visiting the athletic office at Los Alamos High School.
    Price for an all-sports family pass, good for two adults and two students for admittance to all regular season LAHS athletic events, is $100.
    Individual passes may be purchased for $50 for adults and $30 for students and senior citizens.
    Additional student and senior citizen all-sports passes can be purchased for a reduced price.

  • Range Rovers

    Golfers hang out at the driving range prior to the start of the Ed Griggs Strong Kids Memorial Golf Tournament last month. Los Alamos Golf Course will host the Alternate ACI, which started today in place of the Atomic City Invitational, which will not be played this year.

  • WR-LA All-Stars rally to top Santa Fe

    SANTA FE — The White Rock-Los Alamos Little League All-Star junior softball team rallied from two runs down to force extra innings in the opener of its District 1 tournament Monday.
    Elizabeth Anaya’s two-out infield single drove in Megan Pimentel to tie the score in the bottom of the seventh and send the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, WR-LA drew three walks off two Santa Fe Metro All-Star pitchers, including a bases loaded walk by Morgan Hohner to force home the winning run.

  • WR-LA Junior softball team plays tonight

    The White Rock-Los Alamos Little League All-Star team is scheduled to play tonight at 8 p.m.

    The Junior All-Star district tournament schedule has been altered again. Games will be played Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday morning, as well.

    Tonight, WR-LA will play at 8 p.m. against the winner of the Santa Fe-Espanola opening round game. The first game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

    All games will be played at Alto Park in Santa Fe.

    The winner of the 8 p.m. game will play for the championship at 8 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of an elimination game between the two losing teams of the first two games at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

    Another game to determine the district champion is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, if necessary.

  • Long-running tourney gets nixed

     For the second straight year, what had been an annual Los Alamos golfing tradition is a no-go.

    The Atomic City Invitational match-play tournament, which is believed to be the longest continuously-run match-play tournament in the state, has been nixed for the upcoming week. It was scheduled to start Wednesday.

  • Firecracker 5K returns for the Fourth

     The Family YMCA of Los Alamos will again host the Firecracker 5K road race for the Fourth of July.

    The race, which starts and ends at the YMCA building on 15th Street, is scheduled for an 8 a.m. start time Wednesday.

    The Firecracker 5K has grown in popularity in recent years, with a record 242 participants taking part in 2010.

    The race course will go from the YMCA to Canyon Road down to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and back. 

  • Sports Update 07-03-12

     Frito pie dinner is Friday

    A Frito pie dinner is scheduled for Friday at the Los Alamos Posse Lodge.

    The dinner will benefit two local national high school rodeo qualifiers, Jake Trujillo and Katelyn Littleton, who will compete at nationals later this month.

    The dinner will start at 6 p.m. Friday. At the dinner, a pair of horse saddles will be raffled off.

    Football camp starts Monday

  • Happy Campers

    Youth football players hit the foam tackling dummies during a workout of the Hilltopper Youth Football Camp. The camp runs from July 9-12 at Sullivan Field. It is for players in grades 4-8. For more information on the upcoming camp, go to topperfootball.com.

  • Juniors play on Saturday

    The White Rock-Los Alamos Little League Junior softball team is the top seed for the upcoming district tournament.
    The juniors, made up of players ages 13-14, will face the winner of tonight’s game against second-seeded Santa Fe and third-seeded Española Saturday night. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
    All the games for the double-elimination tournament will be played at 6 p.m. at Santa Fe’s Alto Park.
    The tournament will continue through at least Monday with a final playoff set for Tuesday if necessary.
