A pair of standout senior athletes were given the top honor bestowed by Los Alamos High School Thursday night at the Senior Sports Awards Ceremony.
Cross country and track standout Amanda Mercer and top basketball and track athlete Skyler Veenis were named the 2013-14 winners of the Clendenen Award. The Clendenen Award is presented annually to the LAHS student-athlete who best exhibits a strive for excellence in everything they do.
Mercer, a distance runner who has been a big part of the cross country team's success, is very active in the community as a member of Key Club and a volunteer at the local hospital, among many other activities.
Veenis, Los Alamos' top scorer in basketball and a state qualifying hurdler this year, has helped the Jr. 'Topper program for several years, aiding the next crop of Los Alamos athletes.
More on the Sports Awards Ceremony and the Clendenen Award winners will appear in the next editions of the Los Alamos Monitor.
