Today's Opinions

  • Observations voiced about CIP Committee

Now that this year’s Phase I process is over, I have a few observations to make about the committee itself. Rick Bohn, Gary Leikness and the committee did a wonderful job. I applauded them during several of their rating sessions.
Now for a salient look at the makeup of the committee.

  • Future rights questioned

“It is the natural propensity of the functionaries of every government to gather unto themselves the rights and property of their constituents ... nor can these be protected save through education.” –Thomas Jefferson.

  • Better ways to stimulate economy

Republicans played President Obama in the tax deal like mortgage hustlers played homeowners. Focus on the teaser rates, borrow more than you need and trust us to work with you to refinance later when rates jump.

  • Council seems to have its priorities backwards

With respect to the Dec. 21 county council meeting, the council seems to have its priorities backward.  They encourage citizens to attend meetings and make their opinions heard. On the other hand, they discourage petitions.

  • Documentary features local cave dweller 'Micromike'

I’m a Los Angeles-based filmmaker who’s been shooting a documentary film about a Los Alamos resident who calls himself  “Micromike.”

  • Carrier conscientious, kind and courteous to customer

You have an extraordinary young man delivering papers and he deserves special recognition. His first name is Brian. Regrettably, I do not know his last name.
Los Alamos is my hometown and I used to type the Monitor in its very early inception.
I moved away in 1964 and on my return in 2001 I subscribed to the Monitor, but delivery was so inconsistent I discontinued it in 2003.

  • Just A Wag 12-24-10

•We have heard that a status report on the fire department pornography investigation will come out within a couple of weeks.
•Well-known Los Alamos figure Ed Burkle has been nominated by Gov.-elect Susana Martinez to serve as her secretary of the General Services Department.
•We have learned that Dr. Ann Wadstrom submitted the winning suggestion, which resulted in the name change of Airport Basin to Pajarito Cliffs.

  • You heard me ... be a Scrooge!

Back in high school, I could barely put a verb and noun together without hurting myself.  That is, me not was two good very in the English.  Okay, maybe not quite that bad, but I did have trouble keeping my grades up in the low C’s.  (I hope my students aren’t reading this!)
