Letters

  • Few clarifications

    Dear Editor,

In my Council Corner that appeared Tuesday night the version that I thought I sent was correct, but the word processor editor tool apparently added changes we had made prior to the final version, but didn’t erase the final deletions.

  • Look at lab issues

    Dear Editor,

One standard evaluation appealed to by challengers in politics is to ask “Are you better off now than you were 2, 4, 8 years ago?” and insert the incumbent’s term. Since Los Alamos County’s health is so inextricably linked to Los Alamos National Laboratory I propose to switch the question to this: Is Los Alamos National Laboratory better off now than it was before George Bush took office? Will it be better off if his policies are continued by John McCain? Is there any evidence that they would not be continued by McCain?

  • Abortion is not a good health plan

    Dear Editor,

When we consider who to vote for in this election we must consider if the candidates “plans” are rhetoric or heartfelt plans. Are they a result of personal passion and conviction? Or is it just because the political wind is blowing that direction?

  • Conservation is patriotic

    Dear Editor,

In response to “Energy: Influx of cash to solve the financial crisis” (Oct. 15):

  • Make own judgment about DVD

    Dear Editor,

The Rev. John Cullinan has done a serious disservice to our community by writing his disingenuous attack letter against “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West.” (Oct. 16)

  • Administration should be brought up on war crimes

    Dear Editor,

I am tired of people calling the invasion of Iraq a “mistake.” Forgetting the wedding anniversary is a mistake, not planning ahead is a mistake, spending all money in a casino is a stupid mistake. But invading Iraq was a criminal act of the U.S. government and should be treated as such by the next administration and the international community.

Why is murder a crime and war not so much? Certainly not because the president did so.

  • Writer's comments off-base

    Dear Editor,

On Oct. 9, Vivek Dave wrote that an Obama presidency would be a disaster for our economy.  I couldn’t understand where he was coming from until the last sentence where he quoted Ayn Rand.

Her philosophy is the direct opposite of love of our fellow man and altruism as taught by Christianity, Judiasm, Islam, Secular Humanism, and many other beliefs.  It is well known that Alan Greenspan is a follower of Rand, and we can all see where his ideas that government-is-always-the-problem, has driven the world economy.

  • There has been progress

    Dear Editor,

I would first like to say that this letter should’ve been sent a few weeks ago as the upgrades began, but this is as good a time as any. I’d like to tell my view of the power problems here in Los Alamos. I must admit that in the last two years I’ve never experienced as many power outages in my life as I’ve experienced here.

  • Power outages here absurd

    Dear Editor,

  • What we need is a sailboat dealer

    Dear Editor,

Has it occured to anyone that there is no sailboat dealer in Los Alamos? Why is there no sailboat dealer in Los Alamos? There is plenty of disposable income for sailboats. There are lakes nearby to float a sailboat. There are people in Los Alamos who want, or already have, a sailboat. But, there is no sailboat dealer in Los Alamos.
