There seems to be a greater sense of urgency to get the TRU waste off the hill.
That was the thrust of New Mexico Environment Department Secretary David Martin’s presentation last week to the Regional Coalition of LANL Communities in Santa Fe.
When talking about Gov. Susana Martinez’s top priorities, Martin said, “Cleaning up the defense legacy wastes at LANL will be, and must remain, a highest priority to both the State of New Mexico and DOE.”
Martin said that following the Las Conchas fire, Gov. Martinez identified the acceleration of transuranic (TRU) waste shipments from LANL to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant as her top priority.
