  • Survivors Lap

  • Trujillo ready for challenges

    Los Alamos National Laboratory employee and Nambé resident Carl Trujillo beat out Santa Fe mayor David Coss in the Democratic primary election earlier this month. The contenders were vying to fill House District 46 seat left vacant by Speaker of the House Ben Lujan

    Trujillo, 45, will take a seat in the legislature next year as no GOP candidate ran in the primary. Trujillo won the June 5 primary by 206 votes.

    But this wasn’t Trujillo’s first stab at public office: In 2008, Trujillo nearly beat Lujan in the primary but lost by 84 votes.

    The 27-year lab employee said he’s been living in the Rio Grande Valley his entire life.

  • Stage 2 fire restrictions to be in place Monday

    Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, the Santa Fe National Forest, Valles Caldera National Preserve, and NM State Game & Fish properties will enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions due to the potential for extreme fire danger.

    The restrictions apply to all National Forest System lands within the Santa Fe National Forest and Valles Caldera National Preserve.

    CIP meeting

    The county’s Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Evaluation and Oversight Committee will hold its monthly business meeting at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in council chambers.

    FAN Club

    The Betty Ehart Senior Center and Los Alamos Retirement Community, in conjunction with the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce, will host a FAN Club event from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the BESC.

    Council meeting

    The Los Alamos County Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a work session at White Rock Fire Station No. 3.

    BPU meeting

    The Board of Public Utilities will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at 170 Central Park Square.

    Eastern Area 2 Concrete, Paving
    and Utility Project – Phase 1
    Canyon Road between East Road (N.M. 502) and the Myrtle Green continues to be closed to through traffic. Residential access to this area will be maintained; however, residents who park on Canyon Road are asked to park off-street or on a nearby side street. Residents can expect flagging operations on Canyon Road during the day time, and two-way traffic at night. Pedestrians must use the provided detours. All through traffic must seek alternate routes.

    Tour de LA is today

    The 40th annual Tour de Los Alamos is set for this morning.
    Registration for the Tour de Los Alamos, a cycling race which winds around Los Alamos County, is currently open online. men’s women’s junior’s and citizen’s race categories are offered. In-person registration is scheduled for Saturday at Los Alamos National Bank.
    In-person registration may be done at 6:30 a.m near Ruby K’s Racing starts at 8 a.m.

  • Club sale is today

    The Los Alamos Junior Golf Association’s annual club sale is slated for today at Los Alamos Golf Course.
    The club sale runs in conjunction with LAGC’s Father’s Day tournament. The sale will start at 8 a.m. and run through 4 p.m.
    Proceeds from the annual sale will go to support the Los Alamos Hilltopper golf teams and county youth golfing programs.
    Full and partial sets will be available for purchase  at today’s sale.

  • Raw Video: 1 Dead in Toronto Stage Collapse

    A massive stage collapse hours before a Radiohead concert was to begin in Toronto Saturday left one person dead and three others injured, officials said. The venue said on its website that the concert has been canceled.
