Nearly 50 people expressed sharply divided opinions regarding options for the redesign of N.M. 502/Trinity Drive between Knecht and Airport Road at Tuesday’s council meeting. The majority of the comments were in favor of option 1, the motion ultimately adopted by the council in a 6-1 vote.
As the testimony before council continued during the meeting, certain themes began to emerge on both sides of the issue.
A two-lane/slip lane roundabout at the Central Avenue intersection included in Option 1 drew much of the debate. New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Technical Support Engineer David Quintana stated that the roundabout option met the state’s requirements for that intersection.
