  • BLM lifts fire restrictions in NM

    SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is lifting all fire restrictions in New Mexico.

    The lifting of restrictions slated for Tuesday comes after more areas in the state recently received rainfall or saw increased humidity levels.

    This summer has been a busy season for firefighters in New Mexico who have battled the state's largest fire in its history in the Gila Wilderness and another massive blaze near Ruidoso.

  • Son of NM activist shot 40 times by police in Mich.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The son of an activist who has been critical of Albuquerque police over a number of police shootings has himself been shot and killed by police in Michigan.

    Jewel Hall said Monday that her son, Milton Hall, was shot by Saginaw police last week.

    The Saginaw Police Department says the 49-year-old Hall was wielding a knife and made "aggressive movements toward several officers." Local media reports say Hall, who attended high school in Albuquerque, was shot more than 40 times by officers.

  • Raw Video: Intense Rain Floods Denver Highway

    The National Weather Service reports up to an inch of rain fell in Denver during a 30 minute period Monday morning, causing minor flooding but making for treacherous road conditions for commuters during rush hour.

  • Servicemen Lost in Laos Combat Buried

    At Arlington National Cemetery, the remains of six servicemen lost in Laos in 1965 are buried with full military honors in a single casket. They were lost in combat while flying from Vietnam. Their remains were recovered in 2010 and 2011.

  • Woman hospitalized after Monday midday mishap

    A 46-year-old Alcalde woman was hospitalized Monday afternoon after a one-vehicle accident on East Road across from the airport.

    Los Alamos Fire and Police officials on the scene said the woman was either leaving the airport or the Eastern Area subdivision when she suffered some type of medical incident. Instead of turning either direction on East Road, the woman's 2001 Ford SUV crossed the roadway, jumped some plastic pipe that's being used as part of a construction project and came to rest in some brush on the south side of East Road.

  • Names released of NM couple who died in collision at lake

    PAGE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities have released the names of a New Mexico couple who were killed in a collision of two personal water craft on Lake Powell.

    The two people who died in Saturday's collision are Russell and Wendy Gallegos of Fairview, N.M. Both were 44 years old.

    The couple was struck by their 15-year-old daughter, who survived the collision.

    The family was using the small vessels for sightseeing on the San Juan arm of the lake when one of them slowed down and was struck by the other.

  • Oscar-winning Star Ernest Borgnine Dies at 95--Video Extra

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ernest Borgnine, the beefy screen star known for blustery, often villainous roles, but who won the best-actor Oscar for playing against type as a lovesick butcher in "Marty" in 1955, died Sunday. He was 95.

    His longtime spokesman, Harry Flynn, told The Associated Press that Borgnine died of renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his wife and children at his side.
