    THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED AN

    * ARROYO AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR... WEST CENTRAL LOS ALAMOS COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO EAST CENTRAL SANDOVAL COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO

    * UNTIL 745 PM MDT

    * AT 542 PM MDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE LAS CONCHAS BURN SCAR. LOOK FOR UP TO A HALF AN INCH AS THE STORM MOVES FROM NORTH TO SOUTH.

    THIS WILL IMPACT THE LAS CONCHAS BURN SCAR INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BANDELIER NATIONAL MONUMENT... FRIJOLES CANYON... COCHITI CANYON... PERALTA CANYON... HIGHWAY 4 FROM STATE ROAD 501 JUNCTION TO LAS CONCHAS CAMPGROUND AND DOME WILDERNESS.

    Phase 4
    West Road/LAMC entrance will be closed for approximately one week starting on Tuesday. The contractor will be installing a valley gutter; use the HRL building driveway or the hospital access off Trinity. Once the West Road access is reopened, work will begin on the valley gutter at the LANL HRL building driveway; use West Road.

  • Final Count: 9,200 Pot Plants Seized in Raid

    Two days after numerous branches of law enforcement swooped in to bust a $10-million marijuana grow at Bandelier National Monument, superintendent Jason Lott said crews are scrutinizing other areas of the park.

    “We are actively looking for other grow areas along Bandelier. If there are other areas, we will find them and with the fire, that makes it easy,” Lott said.

    “We are sending a clear message that we will be looking for that kind of stuff and we will find you. I don’t want this to be considered a prime place for this kind of activity.”

    Lott said 9,200 plants were eradicated from the site and disposed of at an undisclosed location.

    A STRONG BACKDOOR COLD FRONT WILL ENTER THE FAR NORTHEAST PLAINS LATER THIS MORNING BEFORE PLUNGING SOUTH AND WEST ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE HIGHLANDS AND PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON. SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE WILL INCREASE ALONG THE FRONT WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW STRONG STORMS PRODUCING STRONG DOWNBURST WINDS AND HAIL.

  • Authorities raid pot farm at Bandelier--video extra

    BANDELIER – A Blackhawk helicopter used large baskets attached to long ropes to haul out 9,000 marijuana plants found growing in rugged terrain deep inside Frijoles Canyon at Bandelier National Monument Thursday.

    Authorities discovered the clandestine crop while conducting a flood survey of the area by helicopter following a heavy rainfall on Aug. 23. Officials launched the raid on the marijuana field at 4:40 a.m. Thursday and had dismantled the sophisticated operation by nightfall.

    The marijuana was taken to an undisclosed location and burned.

    * AT 154 PM MDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS TRAINING OVER THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE LAS CONCHAS BURN SCAR. THESE STORMS WERE MOVING EAST AROUND 10 MPH. UP TO ONE HALF INCH OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE. ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS WERE FORMING OVER SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE LAS CONCHAS BURN AREA. THESE STORMS MAY PRODUCE BETWEEN ONE QUARTER AND ONE HALF INCH OF RAIN.

    12:46 a.m. – Nicholas Conner, 29, of Los Alamos was arrested on Arkansas Avenue and charged with possession of a controlled substance, DWI and unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon.

    * AT 516 PM MDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAIN FROM THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE LAS CONCHAS BURN SCAR. SOME OF THE STORMS WERE LOCATED OVER THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE BURN SCAR AND MAY IMPACT SANTA CLARA CANYON... WHILE OTHER STORMS WERE DETECTED ALONG HIGHWAY 4. THESE STORMS WERE MOVING TO THE SOUTHEAST AROUND 15 MPH AND WILL LIKELY PRODUCE BETWEEN ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF INCH OF RAIN.

    Diamond Drive Phase 4
    Application of Open Graded Friction Course (OGFC) continues on Diamond Monday and Tuesday followed by the first coat of roadway markings. Expect lane closures, delays, and detours at side street intersections.
    Work will begin after 8:30 a.m. and will occur on the opposite side of the road from the peak flow. When OGFC is applied past an intersection there will be a 20 to 25 minute delay for that side street intersection.
    Again, flaggers and police officers will be on-hand to redirect traffic. After the OGFC has cured, roadway striping and markings will be placed with lane closures.
