    12:27 p.m. – A 23-year-old Los Alamos woman reported that someone stole items from her car parked in the 3000 block of Arizona Street. The estimated loss is $500.

    7:40 p.m. – A 35-year-old Los Alamos man reported that someone stole items from his car parked in the 3800 block of Villa Street. The estimated loss is unknown.

  • Woman rescued

    A woman is rescued in Pajarito Acres by Los Alamos firefighters after falling off her horse. Driving the Polaris is firefighter Micah Brittelle with firefighter Jeff Wetteland in the passenger seat and firefighter Manuel Pacheco tending to the patient in the rear of the vehicle.   • Firefighters rescue woman in Pajarito Canyon

    A 69-year-old woman broke her hip after falling off a horse on a rugged trail in Potrillo Canyon in White Rock Monday afternoon. She was about halfway down to the Rio Grande River when the accident occurred, said Fire Marshal Michael Thompson.

    The woman’s injuries were such that Los Alamos firefighters were needed to transport her from the location of the accident on a wheeled stretcher over rough terrain to one of LAFD’s off-road vehicles.

    Erika Gorman is a friend of the injured woman whom she said did not wish to be identified.

  • 16 firefighters gain promotion

    A badge ceremony was recently conducted at the Crossroads Bible Church to recognize the accomplishments of local firefighters as they take the next step in their careers.

    One battalion chief, two captains and 13 driver engineers were formally promoted during the Jan. 24 event.

    Among those promoted was Los Alamos native Manny Pacheco who advanced from firefighter II to driver engineer.

    “My dad was a wildland firefighter so I always knew firefighting was in my blood and you know how we all want to be like our dads,” Pacheco said.

  • Northern New Mexico road conditions are hazardous

    SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Road conditions in northern New Mexico are icy and snow packed after a winter storm rolled in.

    The transportation department says Interstate 25 north and southbound from Las Vegas to the Colorado border is icy and snow packed.

    Road crews are plowing, salting and laying down cinders. Motorists should reduce speed and use caution.

    Blowing snow is also reported on I-25 in the Raton area.

    9:50 a.m. – A 13-year-old Española boy reported being the victim of battery at Los Alamos Middle School.

    11a.m. – A 13-year-old Española boy was charged with battery of another 13-year-old Española boy just before school started at Los Alamos Middle School.

  • Gas company apologizes for outage

    SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico Gas Company executives say they're sorry.

    The utility's top officials held a news conference Tuesday in Albuquerque with an update on efforts to restore service in Taos and Espanola. Company president Annette Gardiner says when the gas company said it expected to have service restored by Sunday, officials thought at the time it was "an attainable goal."

  • Natural gas service restoration work completed

    New Mexico Gas Company has posted the following message on the company's website:

     

    Service has now been restored for our customers in all areas affected by the extreme winter storm, including the southern, metro and northern areas. If you are still without gas, or if you have gas but New Mexico Gas Company did not turn on your service, please call us at 1-888-664-2726 so we can revisit your property to connect your service and perform safety checks.

  • NM Gas Company sets up toll-free number for Espanola, Taos customers

    New Mexico Gas Company issued a press release Monday afternoon regarding customers needing assistnace:

    Due to the high volume of calls being received in the Espanola and Taos offices, customers needing assistance should call 1-888-664-2726.  The local offices are dedicated to the restoration deployment and are not able to respond at this time.

  • New Mexico murders still a mystery after 21 years

    LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — The killers were ruthless.

    They showed up at the Las Cruces Bowl shortly before it was scheduled to open at 8 a.m. on a quiet Saturday, just an ordinary sleepy weekend in a laid-back college town about 40 miles north of the Mexican border.

    After stepping through an unlocked door, the two men herded a snack bar cook, Ida Holguin, bowling alley manager Stephanie Senac, her 12-year-old daughter, Melissia Repass, and the girl's 13-year-old friend, Amy Hauser, into a corner office.
