    Diamond Drive Phase 4 2011
    Last week, crews adjusted the traffic control signs and signal at the Diamond/Canyon intersection to clarify the allowed traffic movements.
    Southbound motorists on Diamond Drive approaching the Canyon intersection in the left lane can either turn left onto Canyon or proceed through the intersection in order to turn left onto Trinity. Also, the southbound right lane on Diamond at Canyon is designated as a through lane only.

  • Man rushed to LAMC after his truck rolls over him

    A pickup popped out of gear while parked on Alabama Street as its owner was loading a car onto an attached trailer. 

    The man attempted to jump into his black truck to stop it from rolling when he fell on the ground and underneath the truck's rolling wheels.

    He had been directing his wife, who was driving an older model silver Mercedes Benz that they had purchased from a Los Alamos woman living on Alabama Street.

    The couple's son was sitting in the parked truck when the accident occured.

    "It was just one of those unfortunate accidents," said Sgt. Jeff Regenold, who responded to the scene with Cpl. Alfred Roybal and Ofc. Daniel Roberts.

    * LOCATION... NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO... GENERALLY FROM THE FOUR CORNERS REGION TO THE UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY... INCLUDING THE SANTA FE... ESPANOLA... LOS ALAMOS AND FARMINGTON AREAS.

    * WINDS... SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 OR 55 MPH.

    * TIMING... WINDS WILL RAPIDLY STRENGTHEN BY MIDDAY ACROSS THE REGION... WITH THE STRONGER GUSTS LATE THIS AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL DIMINISH THIS EVENING.

    * VISIBILITY... MAY BE LOCALLY REDUCED IN DUST PRONE AREAS. SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN AND VISIBILITIES MAY BE REDUCED BELOW THREE MILES IN BLOWING SNOW.

  • NMDOT reminds motorists to 'Put it Down' this April

     SANTA FE – New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Secretary Alvin Dominguez encourages motorists to “put it down” during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month throughout April.
    “As the weather starts to warm up and the days get longer, we are more apt to hit the road with our friends and families,” Dominguez said.
    “Distracted driving is a serious, life-threatening practice - whether it be texting, talking, on the phone, eating, reading a map, changing the radio station, or talking to the other passengers in your vehicle - it all takes the attention away from the task at hand: driving safely.”

  • Week-long seminar targets white-collar crimes

    SANTA FE – State Taxation and Revenue Secretary Demesia Padilla recently announced that tax fraud investigators will hold a week-long seminar on how to detect and unravel complex white collar financial crimes of embezzlement, tax evasion, public corruption and more.
    The seminar will be held from April 25-29 in Las Cruces at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.
    “The number of criminal investigations involving complex financial transactions has increased over the past years in our state,” Padilla said. “This workshop is designed to help law enforcement officials, prosecutors and auditors to polish their investigative skills as financial crimes become more and more complex and sophisticated.”

  • Authorities searching for double-murder suspect

    TRUCHAS, N.M. (AP) — Authorities are looking for a man suspected of killing two people in the community of Truchas in northern New Mexico.

    Rio Arriba County sheriff's deputies say they believe 35-year-old Jody Romero shot 24-year-old Amanda Romero and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Delfinio DeFernandez, early Sunday morning. Officials say Jody Romero is not related to Amanda Romero, but he knew both victims.

    Officials say witnesses saw someone who looked like Romero in the area near Truchas and the town of Cordova on Tuesday morning.

    KRQE-TV in Albuquerque reports a nearby elementary school was put on lockdown while deputies searched the area.

    1:59 p.m. – A 33-year-old El Rito woman reported that someone used her credit card without her permission after discovering unauthorized Internet charges on her account. The estimated loss is unknown.

    2:11 p.m. – A 51-year-old Los Alamos woman was located after being reported missing.
    March 24

    7:35 a.m. – A 42-year-old White Rock woman reported that someone stole the catalytic converter from the under side of her Toyota truck parked in the 200 block of Donna Avenue. The estimated loss is unknown.

  • Child abuse hotline gets a new number

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico has a new hotline number to report child abuse and neglect.

    Gov. Susana Martinez and Children, Youth, and Families Secretary Yolanda Deines on Monday announced the new statewide number — 1-855-333-SAFE.

    The department has had a hotline for 12 years, but officials say the new number is easier to remember.

    Caseworkers at the Children, Youth and Families Department's Albuquerque-based central intake unit answer the calls and get as much information as possible.

    A supervisor then reviews each case, deciding whether it will be investigated and whether it's a priority.

    Cases are sent to the county where the child lives.

  • Duo Earn National Urban Rescue Ranking--video extra--photo slideshow

    In the entire nation just 253 canines are certified capable of handling deployments to massive urban disasters anywhere in the world.

    Black Labrador Coalby Maez of Los Alamos just became the latest.

    Debbi Maez, a longtime wilderness search and rescue expert, is the other half of the newly certified urban rescue team. Maez, 44, works in the Security Services Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory by day and has spent her evenings and weekends during the last two-and-a-half-years training Coalby for last month’s grueling certification testing.

    Jack Killeen, Security Services Division Leader at LANL, wanted the community to know of Maez’ and Coalby’s accomplishment.

    * WINDS... SUSTAINED FROM THE SOUTHWEST AT 25 TO 35 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 55 MPH. THE HIGHER PEAKS WILL LIKELY EXPERIENCE EVEN STRONGER GUSTS.
