A House investigations subcommittee resumed scrutiny of security issues at the national weapons labs Thursday in Washington, D.C., with more than one suggestion that Los Alamos National Laboratory may have turned a corner.

The meeting was a follow-up on security at LANL, but new concerns about a physical security failure at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory drew sharp attention.

LANL Director Michael Anastasio joined directors of the other two national labs and Department of Energy security officials at the hearing.

It's no secret that Los Alamos County has an ambitious load of projects that they are working on in an effort to improve the quality of life on the hill. Some of those projects are nearing completion, like the first phase of the Diamond Drive project and the skate park, while others are more long-term works in progress, like the Entrada project and the new judicial/police/jail complex.

James Duffy, a resident of White Rock, passed away at the age of 76 on Monday, September 22, 2008, after a lengthy battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

James started his career in the U.S. Navy and worked many different jobs before coming to Los Alamos in 1978, where he retired from LANL in 1993.

An agreement to provide Fire Department services for Los Alamos National Laboratory and Los Alamos County may have passed a hurdle at Tuesday night's County Council meeting held at the White Rock town hall.
