    In a unanimous vote Monday evening, the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Advisory Board elected Michael Wismer their new chairman and Marie Chiravalle secretary."It's a challenging time for the university because of declining enrollment," Wismer said. "But we have a good board and good leadership at the college, and I'm sure we'll work through it.

    For more than 70 years there was a reservoir in Los Alamos Canyon, supplying water first to the Ranch School, then to the Manhattan Project and the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and eventually to Los Alamos County’s parks and fields.

    SULLIVAN – Susan M. Sullivan, 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, in Santa Fe. She was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, and has been a resident of Los Alamos since 1989.She is survived by her son Randy Lampkin and daughter Sue Hamlin, both of NJ, and her son Mike Sullivan, of CO. She also had seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Thursday March 13, at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church in Los Alamos. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Sierra Club or to Trinity on the Hill.

    KROHN – Barbara Ann Krohn, 86, died on February 29, 2008 after a brief illness. She was born in Verona, Wisconsin in 1921 to Clarence and Freida Rockwell. She graduated from The University of Wisconsin with a degree in Art Education. Barbara is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert D. Krohn; a brother, Clarence Rockwell, Jr.; children Douglas Krohn and his wife Marilyn, Bruce Krohn and his wife Marsha, Dr.

  • School board to meet in Speech Theater

    The Los Alamos Board of Education is set to meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Speech Theater at Los Alamos High School.

    The board is scheduled to continue discussion on the search for a superintendent to replace Dr. James Anderson who is retiring in June.

  • UNM-LA Advisory Board to elect new officers

    The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Advisory Board is set to elect new officers at their meeting set for 5:30 p.m. Monday at the campus Lecture Hall.

    Currently, Nelson Hoffman serves as board chair and Michael Wismer as secretary. Linda Daly, Marie Chiravalle and Ron Dolin are members.
