The recent mild weather on the Pajarito Plateau provides a good opportunity for local wildfire mitigation officials to conduct pile burning operations. Craig Martin, Los Alamos County’s Open Space Specialist will coordinate the activities of local fire crews as they work to address burn units located below San Ildefonso Road and Camino Redondo, below Walnut Street, south of Camino Encantado, west of El Gancho, and along the south edge of the golf course.
Burning began Friday. Burning will continue through the day from Friday through Monday. Lingering smoke may be visible throughout and beyond this period as fire crews monitor the piles and consolidate the material to reduce the volume of smoke.
