    Feb. 14

    Sherri A. Knapp was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding 16-20 miles an hour over the speed limit. She was ordered to pay $46 in court costs and perform community service.

    Donna Moniz was found guilty in Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. She was ordered to pay $46 in court costs. Sentence was deferred until April 14.

    Mark Bayless was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding 16-20 miles an hour over the speed limit. He was fined $100 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Ronald G. Hennies was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of failing to stop or yield at a traffic sign. He was ordered to pay $46 in court costs and attend defensive driving school.

    Barbara Musgrave was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of failing to stop or yield at a traffic sign. She was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Susan H. Jones was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding 11 to 15 miles an hour over the speed limit. She was fined $75 and ordered to pay $46 in costs.

    Rodrigo Guadin-Castañon was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. He was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Les E. Templeton was found guilty in Los Alamos Magistrate Court of aggravated driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail. He was also fined $750 and ordered to pay $356 in court fees. He was also ordered to undergo a substance abuse assessment and have interlock devices installed on all of his vehicles.

    Gina Koehler was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the limit. She was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $46 in court costs.

    Jan. 31
    Tanya Lopez was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the limit, failing to appear in court and failing to pay her fines/court costs. She was ordered to pay a $150 fine and $138 in court costs.

    Abigail L. Greco was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of causing an accident through careless driving. She was ordered to pay $46 in court costs. Sentencing deferred until April 30.

    Jose M. Sansinena was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of failing to yield or stop at a sign, which caused an accident. Sansinena was ordered to pay $46 in court cost. Sentencing deferred until March 29.

  • NM high court issues set back in prostitution case

    SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The New Mexico Supreme Court has dealt a blow to prosecutors' case against two aging college professors accused of helping run an online prostitution ring.

    The state's high court denied Wednesday prosecutors' requests to overturn a lower court's ruling that nothing in state law made the website illegal.

    A state judge in June ruled that the website "Southwest Companions" linked to former University of New Mexico president F. Chris Garcia and retired Fairleigh Dickinson University physics professor David C. Flory violated no laws.

    Both were arrested by Albuquerque police in June 2011 on charges of promoting prostitution after a yearlong police investigation into an alleged multistate operation.

    Michael Fricke, deputy district attorney for Bernalillo County, says prosecutors will reevaluate the case.

    Defense attorneys say they were pleased with the ruling.

    Nathan Hohner was found guilty through the Los Alamos Municipal Court’s Citepay system of failing to pay a speeding ticket. The original charge was for driving six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit.
    For both charges, Hohner was ordered to pay $100 in fines and $92 in court costs.

    Stephen. S. Moore was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. He was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $46 in court fees.

    Phyllis A. Foley was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. She was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $46 in court fees.

    Stephen L. Weller was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding 11 to 15 miles an hour over the speed limit. He was ordered to pay a $75 fine and $46 in court fees.

    Dee Martinez was found guilty in Los Alamos Magistrate Court of disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay $73 in court costs and serve 182 days of unsupervised probation.

    Javier Dominguez was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of two counts of failure to appear/failure to pay. He was fined $100 and ordered to pay $190 in court fees.

    Paulina Peralta pleaded no contest in Los Alamos Municipal Court for driving with an open container in her car. She was fined $100 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

  • Jemez Pueblo seeks return of Valles Caldera lands

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Leaders of an American Indian community in northern New Mexico are seeking the return of all land within the boundaries of the 89,000-acre Valles Caldera National Preserve, citing the area as a "spiritual sanctuary" and part of their traditional homeland.

    Jemez Pueblo filed a lawsuit in federal court last summer to establish its aboriginal right to ownership of the property, and the pueblo has gained the support of tribes throughout New Mexico.

    The preserve is home to vast grasslands, the remnants of one of North America's few super volcanoes, and one of New Mexico's most famous elk herds. The federal government bought the property from land grant heirs in 2000 with the goal of operating it as a working ranch while developing recreational opportunities for the public.

    Dec. 13

    James Martinez was found guilty in Los Alamos Magistrate Court for use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
    Martinez was ordered to pay a $50 fine as well as $148 in court costs. He was also assigned a year of supervised probation.
    Conditions of probation include obeying all laws and not be arrested or convicted of any other offense while on probation. Defendant will comply with all conditions of probation.
    The defendant shall not enter an establishment that buys or sells alcohol. Defendant shall into possess a firearm, destructive device or weapon. Defendant must meet with probation officer within seven days and maintain contact.
    Defendant must also pay $25 a month in probation fees, with payment being made to the municipal court. The defendant must also pay Los Alamos County Probation Officer Linda Peña $25 a month in probation fees and submit to random urinalysis tests.

    Andrew Hitson was found guilty in Los Alamos Magistrate Court of two counts of assault and attempted battery.
    He was ordered to pay $126 in court fees and undergo 182 days of supervised probation.
    Conditions of probation include obeying all laws and not be arrested or convicted of any other offense while on probation. Defendant will comply with all conditions of probation.
