    March 5

    Dustin Herbert was found guilty in Los Alamos Magistrate Court of disorderly conduct. The original charge was use or possession of drug paraphernalia. He was ordered to pay $73 in court costs.
    The defendant was assigned 182 days of supervised probation.
    Conditions of probation include obeying all laws and not be arrested or convicted of any other offense while on probation. Defendant will comply with all conditions of probation. The defendant shall not enter an establishment that buys or sells alcohol. Defendant shall not possess a firearm, destructive device or weapon. Defendant must meet with probation officer within seven days and maintain contact.
    The victim must also pay $25 a month in probation fees to the court.

    Chelsea Cavasos was found guilty by Los Alamos Municipal Court of improper turning. She was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court fees.

    Benjamin G. Stewart was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding 11-15 miles per hour over the speed limit. He was fined $75 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Los Alamos Municipal Court found Barbara Pacheco-Gonzales guilty of failing to yield or stop at a sign and failing to pay. She was fined $100 and ordered to pay $92 in court costs.

    Feb. 28

    Sharon D. Fogle was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of driving 36 miles an hour over the posted speed limit. She was ordered to pay $46 in court costs, perform community service and attend defensive driving school. Her sentence has been deferred until May 28.

    Billy Montoya was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding 11-15 miles an hour over the posted speed limit. Defendant was fined $75 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Chandana Gangodagamage was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. Defendant was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Julia E. Montoya was found guilty in municipal court of causing a car accident by following too closely. Defendant was ordered to pay $46 in court costs, attend defensive driving school and perform community service. Sentence was deferred until May 28.

    Tammy Jo Morris was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. Defendant was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Verena Kleinrath was found guilty by the municipal court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. Defendant was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

  • LA man's custody battle continues

    Five years ago, when they were living in Colorado, Robert Manzanares’ ex-girlfriend left Colorado and went to Utah and gave birth to their daughter.

    Then, apparently without his knowledge, she put the baby up for adoption to her brother’s Utah-based family. According to Utah state law, an unmarried father’s consent to adoption is not required if the child is six-months-old or younger.

    Ever since that time, Manzanares, a Los Alamos resident, has been waging a long and complicated legal battle to get the Utah and Colorado courts to recognize his rights as a father and a parent. Manzanares has made steady progress in reclaiming his rights, but it has not been easy. Something or someone always seems to step in between him and his daughter.

    The most recent obstacle has been a move made by the adoptive parents. Manzanares said they abruptly broke a court-based agreement that allowed him temporary visitation rights. due to the fact the Utah Supreme Court reversed an earlier district court decision that prevented Manzanares from pursuing visitation rights to the child.

  • Recordings heard in fatal 'good Samaritan' Pojoaque case

    SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico man accused of killing a preschool teacher who was trying to stop him from beating his girlfriend later told his girlfriend that he made the "ultimate sacrifice" for her, according to jail phone recordings played for jurors Thursday.

    Prosecutors allege Adrian Gonzales, 31, assaulted his girlfriend, killed the teacher and stabbed another man during a December 2011 dispute at a mobile home park in Pojoaque, about 15 miles north of Santa Fe.

    The phone conversations played for jurors were recorded at the Santa Fe County jail shortly after Gonzales' arrest in the stabbing death of 21-year-old Victoriano "Mo" Moises Byrne-Gonzales, who taught at the Playschool of the Arts in Santa Fe.

    Gonzales, of Dixon, has pleaded not guilty.

    In one of the recordings, Gonzales tells his then-girlfriend that he is facing life in prison and that Byrne-Gonzales and the other man, Santiago Cordova, were attacking him after his fight with her. The girlfriend is heard crying, and repeatedly apologizes for the altercation.

    Mariadellourdes Hernandez was found guilty by Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. She was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court fees.

    Richard Skotnicki was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court for speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. He was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court fees.

    Gregory Fisher was found guilty by Los Alamos Municipal Court for speeding in a school zone six to 10 miles an hour over the limit. He was fined $100 and ordered to pay $46 in court fees.

    Jessica K. Maassen was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court for failing to obey a traffic signal. She was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Barbara Musgrave was found guilty by the Los Alamos Municipal Court of failing to stop or yield at a traffic sign. She was fined $50 and ordered to pay $46 in court costs.

    Les E. Templeton was found guilty in Los Alamos Magistrate Court of aggravated driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail. He was also fined $750 and ordered to pay $356 in court fees. He was also ordered to undergo a substance abuse assessment and have interlock devices installed on all of his vehicles.

    Gina Koehler was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the limit. She was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $46 in court costs.

    Tanya Lopez was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the limit, failing to appear in court and failing to pay her fines/court costs. She was ordered to pay a $150 fine and $138 in court costs.

    Abigail L. Greco was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of causing an accident through careless driving. She was ordered to pay $46 in court costs. Sentencing deferred until April 30.

    Jose M. Sansinena was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of failing to yield or stop at a sign, which caused an accident. Sansinena was ordered to pay $46 in court cost. Sentencing deferred until March 29.

  • NM high court issues set back in prostitution case

    SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The New Mexico Supreme Court has dealt a blow to prosecutors' case against two aging college professors accused of helping run an online prostitution ring.

    The state's high court denied Wednesday prosecutors' requests to overturn a lower court's ruling that nothing in state law made the website illegal.

    A state judge in June ruled that the website "Southwest Companions" linked to former University of New Mexico president F. Chris Garcia and retired Fairleigh Dickinson University physics professor David C. Flory violated no laws.

    Both were arrested by Albuquerque police in June 2011 on charges of promoting prostitution after a yearlong police investigation into an alleged multistate operation.

    Michael Fricke, deputy district attorney for Bernalillo County, says prosecutors will reevaluate the case.

    Defense attorneys say they were pleased with the ruling.

    Nathan Hohner was found guilty through the Los Alamos Municipal Court’s Citepay system of failing to pay a speeding ticket. The original charge was for driving six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit.
    For both charges, Hohner was ordered to pay $100 in fines and $92 in court costs.

    Stephen. S. Moore was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. He was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $46 in court fees.

    Phyllis A. Foley was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of speeding six to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. She was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $46 in court fees.

    Dee Martinez was found guilty in Los Alamos Magistrate Court of disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay $73 in court costs and serve 182 days of unsupervised probation.

    Javier Dominguez was found guilty in Los Alamos Municipal Court of two counts of failure to appear/failure to pay. He was fined $100 and ordered to pay $190 in court fees.
