  • Hazmat team clears TA-22

    A number of employees at Los Alamos National Laboratory were working in Technical Area 22 Thursday afternoon when some of the workers detected an unusual odor.
    Employees at TA-22 routinely work with small quantities of chemicals, said Jeff Berger, the lab’s communications director.
    Six workers went to the LANL Occupational Medicine facility for examination. Medical personnel reportedly determined there were no injuries and the employees were released late Thursday afternoon.

  • Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist to give talks on asteroids

    Laboratory scientist Catherine Plesko will talk about asteroids at two Café Scientifique talks in Santa Fe, and Los Alamos.
    The talk is titled “Deflection of Earth-Bound Asteroids,”and she will talk at the Santa Fe Complex (near the Santa Fe Railyard), 624 Agua Fria Street, Santa Fe at 6:45 tonight.
    Then on Thursday at 6:45 p.m., Plesko will give her talk at the Los Alamos Research Park.
    High school students and the general public are invited to attend.

  • LANL infrastructure specialist testifies at Roundhouse on state natural gas disruption

    Speaking before the New Mexico House Energy and Natural Resources Committee Feb. 16, LANL scientist Loren Toole offered a technical overview of the”conceptual underpinnings” of New Mexico’s recent natural gas outage, an event that threw several thousand New Mexico households into a winter deep freeze for days.

  • NNSA honors two with Los Alamos ties

    The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Defense Programs announced the recipients of the Employee of the Quarter Awards Wednesday and two employees with Los Alamos ties earned recognition.
    The awards recognize individuals who have gone beyond the call of duty in supporting the mission of NNSA’s Defense Programs.

  • GAO reports on NNSA shortcomings

    The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released its report on nuclear weapons and it titled its findings, “NNSA Needs More Comprehensive Infrastructure and Workforce Data to Improve Enterprise Decision Making.”

    The report was given to various congressional committees.

  • Sandia rededicates building to Domenici

    ALBUQUERQUE — Sandia National Laboratories Director Paul Hommert will re-dedicate Sandia’s Weapons Integration Facility (building 898) as the Pete V. Domenici National Security Innovation Center at a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the southeast corner of Sandia National Laboratories’ Mesa Complex on Kirtland Air Force Base.
    Domenici will be joined by Rep. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M. and Steve Pearce, R-N.M. and Deputy Administrator Don Cook of NNSA Defense Programs. Gov. Susanna Martinez also will attend.
