Hilltopper girls golf gets second state leg

Wind and rain made conditions tough for Los Alamos' boys and girls golf teams Monday at the Grants Coyote Invite.
"I was very proud of both teams for simply sticking it out and finishing the round," Los Alamos boys head coach Andy Ainsworth said. "The weather was absolutely horrendous... at many times it was a torrential downpour."
Despite the rough weather, Los Alamos' girls golf team shot their second state qualifying leg of the season. The Hilltopper girls shot a 381 to earn the state leg. They also tied with Piedra Vista for first-place in the team competition.
"The girls getting a qualifying leg was a remarkable achievement," Ainsworth said.
Jennifer Necker led the Hilltopper girls once again. Necker qualified for state with a 91 — her third state-qualifying leg in the team's third tournament of the season.
Emily Moulton finished right behind Necker with a 92 and earned her first qualifying leg with the score.
"Individual legs by Emily and Jennifer showed some real toughness," Ainsworth said.
Elizabeth Lockhart (98) and Leah Mountain (100) rounded out Los Alamos' team score while Sophia Sivils (132) also competed.
Piedra Vista's Chantalle Kovacs won the individual title with an 82.
