  • The Los Alamos Animal Shelter, 226 East Road, 662-8179, has a great selection of on-site adoptable pets; others are in foster care with loving, temporary homes.
    Be sure to click on the Friends of the Shelter website, www.lafos.org. You can volunteer and/or donate, as well as check out links to all our adoptable pals.
    We have a new color-coding system to help you select your perfect new family member. Check it out.
    The shelter has just received a new group of cats and has appointments for their veterinary updates. They are available for viewing and will be adoptable very soon. Come visit Michael, Princess, C-2 and Yoda.

  • The community of St. Dimitri of Rostov Orthodox Church will host a Blessing of the Animals at 11 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Posse Lodge. All pets and animals are welcome. Horses from the nearby stables can be walked over to be blessed. Food will be provided.
    In Ancient Christian Orthodoxy, life is understood as a movement of love between the persons of the Holy Trinity. The whole cosmos participated in this liturgy of love but fell away from it in the fall. The Messiah, Jesus Christ, restores humanity to that liturgy.

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song.  Besides the enjoyment of singing in harmony, our barbershop chorus and quartets experience the thrill of performing in the community. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall. Attendees will find their chapter meetings are well planned, musically satisfying and fun. Visitors are welcome.
