  • Helping the community naturally

Many people have heard of the Los Alamos High School Natural helpers, yet few know the role that they play among the student body and in the community.
The Natural Helpers of Los Alamos High School are students whom others “naturally” trust for advice on personal matters.
They are chosen at the beginning of each year through a survey allowing students to write down the peers that they confide in most. If a student receives at least five recommendations, they are invited to join NH.
The group then goes on a retreat to learn more about helping others. This year’s LAHS Natural Helpers’ retreat was in late November.

    California

The city where there are no boundaries or limits
    Where anything is possible
    Keeps everyone California dreamin’
People came to Cali since the 60’s
When Haight-Ashbury was the place to be
And there were drum circles as far as you could see
When images of psychedelic dreamscapes were common
Cali seemed like a haven of new ideas and peace
Where guitar gods rose to fame and Beatles disembarked in need for a change
Get lost in the concrete jungles of L.A.
Go catch a Lakers game at Staples and watch Kobe dunk on the Celtics
Chill with Pac and Snoop on Crenshaw and share some Cali Love
Later on, hang with O’shea and Chris on their porch

  • Fashion Maven: Find the right polish to make your nails pop

I don’t know about you, but I consider nail polish more of an accessory than a makeup product. Up to this point in your life, you probably have tried every shade and every style of nail polish on the market, which is a good thing because you have a head start compared to the nail-polish-illiterate.
The possibilities of nail painting are endless. In my opinion, the way to get the most beautiful nails of all is to use your imagination, to experiment and to practice until you get the manicure that you want.
For the unmotivated, I have a few pre-conceived ideas for you to work with.
As with anything else, begin with the basics. Start by washing your hands or feet very well for a few minutes with warm soap and water.

  • Grooving to the beat: Prom 2011

The mere mention of the word prom can bring joy and giggles, or despair and nervousness.
The normal thoughts revolve around where to take pictures, where to go to dinner, get the dress or tux and the ever-so-important date.
Although one would never think of a dark, loud dance club with black lights and strobe lights as being part of prom, that exact setting became part of the Los Alamos High School Junior/Senior prom this year.
The prom began at 9 p.m., but the festivities started well in advance as prom-goers, many of whom traveled to Española or Santa Fe, went out to dinner.

  • Fashion 411: Every shoe closet needs the basics

Shoes: More Important Than You Thought
I am a complete sucker for shoes. Honestly, if I could live in my heels, I would. But, of course, heels are hard to walk in and shoes are hard to find. I know, finding the right pair is a big dilemma, but I have a few tips that will land you the perfect pair.
First of all, every shoe closet should consist of a few types of basic shoes. Flats, pumps, peep-toe heels, embellished heels, gladiator sandals and boots are the bare essentials.
