  • Fashion Maven: Show off your shades

Huge, out-of-this world, colorful sunglasses are a hit this spring and while they may look great in magazines, I’ll bet many of you are having qualms about actually pulling off this look.
Fashion is about making a statement and making a statement can mean plucking up a lot of courage, but also making sure the trend looks good on you.
Since this trend is focusing on how large sunglasses are, we’ve got to make sure that the color of the shades compliments your skin tone.
Hold the glasses up to your face to see if their color makes you look very pale or pasty. Vibrant, neon colors tend to have this effect more than neutral colors, so if you want more toned-down shades, go for neutral colors. That means black, white, beige or navy.

Teen Pulse staff member and high school senior Ada Ciuca asked students, “What should the 2013 prom theme be?”

  • Ask Alex: What are the best pets?

What is the best animal to have as a pet?

This is a valid question. Asking any person on the street will only result in biased opinions and stories about the time they got rabies from the kind of pet they hate. I, on the other hand, will supply you with truth, justice and the rabies vaccine.
Pets are a great addition to any home that needs just a little more life. No curtain color or carpet  pattern will bring as much life to your house as a pet will. They are living, breathing creatures.

  • ‘The Hunger Games’ pulls the audience in

Reporter’s note: This review’s intended audience is the people who aren’t familiar with the story, so there will be a lot of “no duh” moments for series veterans

What I liked: Each district and city sets its own mood; feels like you’re in Panem with the characters; tension skyrockets when the characters step into the arena for the first time.

What I didn’t like: Any problems are too small be significant.

  • An inside look at Team 4153

On Pi Day, a team of 12 high school students, their mentors and a handful of parent chaperones boarded a charter bus.
Over the next three days, they would finally get to test their skills against other teams, to the cheers of an audience of hundreds.
They are no ordinary team. They are the FIRST Robotics Competition team 4153, aka Project Y.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded by Dean Kamen, president of DEKA Corporation, in 1989.
In his words, the mission of FIRST is “to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders.”

  • 50 Cent gives a sample of what to expect this summer

The notion of mortality has plagued humans since the dawn of time. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is familiar with this notion more than most people. Shot nine times in 2000, 50 Cent is lucky to be alive.
Unlike other gun violence victims, he got another chance at life and he has not wasted it.
Trying to build on his Billboard dominance of the early 2000s, 50 cent released his first mix tape since his 2009 studio album “Before I Self Destruct.”
Released only on the Internet in December, 50’s mix tape “The Big 10” had an aura of failure surrounding it. Following the major letdown of “Before I Self Destruct,” “The Big 10” had to prove that 50 could still hang with the new, younger rappers.

  • Fashion Maven: Tips for sprucing up this season’s style

Hurray, spring is here! Why does winter have to be so long, anyway? Not that I don’t love pea coats and boots and UGGs, but come on, you’ve got to love warmer weather, a balmy breeze and the beginnings of a suntan.
Plus, the commencement of a season means a whole new list of what you’ve got to have this spring to be in style.
    • For both men and women, colorful jeans are in. That means patterned or solid-colored ones. Don’t forget that this trend still requires taste.
This spring, we’re rocking colorful jeans with class, not with punk. Keep in mind that your jeans must fit well and that the colors in the pattern should be such that you can pair the jeans with items you already have in your closet.

  • Hundreds rally for religious freedom

On March 23, hundreds gathered for the “Stand Up For Religious Freedom” rally at the Pete Domenici Federal Courthouse Plaza in Albuquerque for an hour of speeches and songs.
This was just one of the rallies scheduled on this day in 143 cities across the nation, including Alaska and Hawaii.
The rallies were held to protest the Federal Government Department of Health and Human Services health care mandate.
The mandate requires all employers to provide in their employee health care plans, some products and services, which are contradictory to the religious and moral beliefs and practices of that employer.
